    CMP M1A1's

Is there any chance to own/purchase one of the recently arrived M1A1 carbines legally in CA or can we just dream about it?

They have M1A1 carbines now? Last I heard they only have M1's with regular or M2 stock, no side folding paratrooper stocks.

A folding stock would be a no go in the state of California. It would also be well under the 30" rule. If you were mistaken and are talking about the regular M1 carbine than yes they completely legal to buy as people have been buying them for the past few months.

I was reading the newest GCA journal and it said that the CMP recieved between 500-750 M1A1 folding stock carbines. In one of the pictures it says they will be available later this year. I dont know what this mean for us in the PRK.

Time to find a relative in a free state that wants to join the CMP.

Ive heard these M1A1's will likely be auctioned off... due to the fact they know these will fetch big money$$$

That'd be my guess. If these are in any decent kind of shape they'd fetch at least twice as much as the regular carbines. They'd be fool not to auction them off one by one since some variants are rarer than a hen's teeth.

Actually Orest has said there are too many to auction off...they will be sold.. but they won;t get to them until 2009.. GCA article may have said sooner.. but Orest has said on the CMP site that 2009 is the target year for the Greek Carbines

                        Joke

I have too many carbines as it is, I'll let the other 47 or so states enjoy the M1A1s...

Here's a pic of one of the crates:

According to the GCA, they all seem to have the later adjustable sights, but no bayo lug. The leather cheek piece on the stock is in good condition on the ones observed so far. It is believed that the Greeks didn't use them and just kept them in storage until they were returned to the US govt.

We need to have the French send back some Garands and Carbines too: I bet they were only dropped once and hardly used.

if you weld a bayonet onto the front would that add to the OAL?
