    M91/30 Scope Mount?

So I have $40 credit to burn at Brownell's that expires on 12/31. For days now I'm visiting the site in search of something usable without spending much over $100. Few things that I can use are either OOS (AR pistol buffer kit) or overpriced (Green Mountain 10/22 barrel). Then I came upon this little mount.

It comes out to $45 shipped. I like the fact that it bolts right on, with no drilling into the receiver. Does anyone have this or would recommend getting it, being in the situation I'm in? I would most likely mount a Nikon ProStaff 3-9x40 on it. Thanks.

I put one on one of my better shooters, first with a red dot and then with a LER 4x fixed scope with about 80 shots through it. No problems, zero has been held. Be sure and use a little bit of blue loctite, but other than that it works fine. Not that I am a big Nutnfancy guy, but IIRC he did one of the reviews on that on youtube....

I like that it is a nondestructive system but I don't see much of a benefit in it over just unpinning and tapping off the whole rear sight and using the 3/8th dovetail rail that is under it.

      Then use some dovetail rings.
I know you are looking to spend the credit, just offering a cheaper solution.

I think you'll need an LER/EER scope with that mount for the long eye relief.

The challenge I had on my setup was the pins were soldered in pretty good and I wasn't at the point where I was was going to bring a torch to it... at least I believe pounding it out was tough for me. If you can pound it out, then yes I think the rimfire rings work. I think I've even seen some folks even use the holes to drive a pin through like you'd do on a pic rail. I would try Chaos' method first as it give you more options and gets your scout scope closer to the bore which is desirable as the wood stock doesn't lend itself well to a good cheek weld high up.

Yea I've read accounts that some are soldered and some are not. That would be the downside to the method I mentioned..

Then use some rings like the UTG integral.

That particular UTG mount is too long and will push the handguard forward where the rear band can't hold it. There is another "offset"version that fits a lot better and does not have that problem.

And the mount? Garbage! I'm still pissed that someone tapped my M38 for that piece of junk!

Dont bother with that mount, buy the ATI mount/bolt kit and have that installed, easy/solid/will hold zero, and you can use a normal scope.

Too many people buy the scout mount and then realize that a good scout/pistol scope is too expensive so they buy a cheap scope and it will break.

Its a $100 rifle and there are 64 million of them, a few refurbs with good/new bores, the rest have hysterical collectable markings that you can convince yourself their worth $25 to $100's of dollas more until you cannot find someone willing to pay your value when you want to sell it.

Price means nothing. My 2007 JM stamped Marlin 336 xlr 30-30 is about $700 Retail and my $89 buck MN shoots rings around it @ 100 yards, let alone 200.

what happened? did somebody tap it in your sleep? did you wake up yelling, "Hey! Who tapped my m38!?" The bent bolt from ATI is not as substantial as the original but some of the other bent bolts look RETARDED! if you are sporterizing the mosin than it all comes down to personal preference..since that mount is apparently garbage, would you mind sharing the better option or is that a secret?

Yea those sneaky underpants gnomes snuck into my room and tapped it..
                        Phase 1: Tap M38
                        Phase 2: ?
                        Phase 3: Profit

Bought it that way. The previous, previous owner apparently did it to it.
The seller did not disclose that it was tapped and the photos did not show it.
So it was kind of a shock after an hours drive to find 2 holes in it that I didn't know about.
The mount itself is really cheaply made and the attachment method is just a bad idea imo.

But yes I bought it, so I have to deal with it.
I put set screws in the holes, less noticeable from a quick glance and looks better but still destroys historical value imo...
Still I got a good deal on it so I can live with it...

Share a better option? I already did. Tap off the rear sight base and use the dovetail underneath. It's totally reversible...
