    Help me decide

Next year, I'd like to buy another rifle. I only have enough for one of these two (can't buy both):

    A CMP Garand
    A Model 1892 Lever-action (Winchester clone)

I already have a CMP Garand. The M1892 I was considering was a Chiappa "24" octagonal in .38/.357.

The Chiappa is twice the cost of a Garand. However, In 2014, the Garand will have to be registered so it'll cost more money.

Which rifle do you guys suggest? And what do you think of my choice in the Model 1892 rifle? Thanks.

I say that if you have the budget to buy a gun that's twice the cost of 1 CMP Garand

Then the clear choice is buy 2 CMP Garand's ... Buy while you still can

          Garand no question whatsoever

If you read through the CMP forums all the service grade Springfields and H&R's coming out right now are very nice indeed. In addition you can specify, no birch please or low serial number etc. From what guys are saying, now is a grea time to order and the wait time usually goes way up around tax refund time. IMHO

I was at the Ventura Gun Show this morning and I have to say, there were a LOT of Garands there. Also have to say, for the most part, about 10-40% higher prices than the CMP for what you get. The $625.00 CMP Service Grades sell for about $800.00 at the shows and the Service Specials are about $1,200.00 whereas CMP has them for $950.00.

Did a see a couple of nice Service Grade equivalent Winchesters though but they were asking $1,200.00, which is ridiculous, although CMP has been sold out of them for a long time. CMP might have a few Field Grade Winchesters left though, would have to check the website.

CMP rifles come with paperwork, a case, providence and a nice level of support whereas buying one from an anonymous guy at a gun show doesn't really have much to support it.
