    Black Powder Gun Laws

I own two black powder firearms: a Ruger Old Army and a Thompson Center Hawken. I've never shot them (or any black powder firearm) and have recently been thinking of taking them out to have a little fun.

Do I need to transport these in the same manner as a center fire firearm? How does the government (both federal and state) view these guns? Any difference in gun laws?

The feds don't consider muzzle loaders to be firearms at all. But they are considered firearms under many sections of California law, except when it comes to sales and transfers.
