Want to buy a CMP M1 Garand from CMP. No problem, shipping question:

CMP says they ship to my home, I thought in this state everything had to be shipped to a FFL.

Does that also include C & R?

CMP can ship directly to your home. They were created by an act of Congress and have certain exemptions.

Note that the CMP will probably be affected by the new requirement to register long guns starting Jan 1st, 2014. They have to send M1s to FFLs in New Jersey so they'll probably handle California the same way. Buy 'em while it's convenient.

Yep, the only thing that will change is that you will have to register the rifles that you receive by mail or in person just like you now need to do when you bring in a handgun from out of state.

Now and in 2014, handguns shipped to or purchased in CA must go through a dealer. The only way around that is to go out of state and purchase in person. Then you can bring it back, but you must register it using this form.

Gun shops do not always, like police, no the laws covering firearms.
