    My Mosin Nagant Bore

Being new at this, I was wondering if this bore is good to shoot. Its awful black, but I intend to try Kroil and JB bore paste to clean it. Sooooo, is this bore considered to have strong rifling?

    Any info helpful. Thanks.

Looks very pitted, but it doesn't look unsafe to shoot.

Yeah, strong rifling, but pitted. Basically I'd do a decent but not obsessive job of cleaning it and then maybe bring it to the range and do 60-80 rounds then clean it and basically not judge the barrel until around the third time I'd taken it out.

I have one that looks almost like that and it shoots pretty good.

Agreed - pitted but the rifling looks decent.
          Fairly common among mosin's
A good strong cleaning may take some of the pitting out but not all.
          Shoot away!

Looks more like dirty than pitted. Shoot 10 rounds and run a few wet patches through, then repeat a few times. It will probably clean up really well.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Could be dirt. Sometimes you'll get big chunks of stuff coming off these things. With these old barrels it can be really hard to guess which ones with be shooters until they've settled in. And basically any modern solvent is going to pull out all kinds of stuff that's been there for years.

Looks pretty pitted, have one that kinda looked the same way

Just clean it up and run a bore smake thru it about 5 times, then shoot about 50 rounds thru it letting it cool after each 5, that will remove a lot of the pitting. It will darken again, but keep it lubed, I found that borebutter (for muzzle loaders) works really well on Mosins to keep the bore from rusting, once they start it's a ***** to keep them from more.

Mine was owned by a guy who used corrosive ammo and never took care of it, but the rifleing looks good and it shoots well

Muzzle wear is most important, may need counter bore to bring out max accuracy

Also, once you've cleaned it out try running some Never-Dull through the barrel. It'll help polish it up a bit, and will help with accuracy every so slightly.

I agree with Brian. Put some bullets through it. I have a M38 with a bore that looked poor when I picked it up. After running 40 rds down the barrel and cleaning it the difference was amazing.
