Crates or Romanian sks's Pics up

Im looking for education on Romanian sks's. I'll be sorting through 60 of them. I don't know anything about these are there even stamps on them that are preferred or is it all condition? They have been in the crates since import years ago, they will be in Sacramento soon. Its Xmas time so if you want one start saving .

I've got a couple books that would prove to be very helpful. However you made it plain that you know everything a few times in this forum, so good luck in figuring it out on your own.

From the Kehaya/Poyer book: The Romanian SKS shows the serial number, mfg year, and factory symbol (unfletched arrow in a triangle) on the left side of the receiver. Various inspection numbers stamped on bolt body and stock in finger grooves, wrist, butt, receiver, magazine, and trigger assembly.

They were produced at the Cugir factory with a 2 character alpha code followed by a digital serial # ranging from 0-6000 followed by year of mfg. serial number sequences are:

        1957 - AA, DD
1958 - BC, CD, DE, EF, FE
        1959 - GH, GM, GN
        1960 - BA, BC, RB

The largest production years were 1958-1959
Approximately 500K were mfg in Romania between 1957 -1962, or 1956 - 1962 according to BATFE

I'd look at overall condition, matching numbers, bore, etc. I hope you find this information useful, as the Kehaya / Poyer book is usually the 'go-to' source for SKS info.

The Romy would be a C&R eligible gun, and is listed so in the BATFE manual. If you plan on getting any of these and reselling, I'd be interested in buying one.

I bet he's yanking your chains. Or maybe he is just being selfish not to share the info of when and where this all takes place.

I agree that prime considerations would be 1. matching numbers, 2. overall condition, and 3.bore.

Some of these may have renumbred stocks or mixed parts - these would still be great shooters and quite collectable, but not as much as all original matching.

And of course, condition. I've seen near pristine Romanians, and real beaters. Naturally, the better looking it is, the more collectable and valuable it is.

I don't have my Romanian SKS handy to examine, but I believe these have a chromed bore, so this should be a minor consideration. No real "special" or sought after markings that I know of, but keep an eye out anyway. You never know, one might turn up with markings to Chow-chess-que's personal guard or something.

I think 1957's, being the first year and less common, might have a very small value premium
