C&R in californa worh the bother?

I have ben reading some of the other threads about Ca. restrictions on C&R holders. Having to go to a dealer to get the hand guns sounds like a pain to me as well.
I have been thinking about getting one but is it worth it?
So I thought lets poll the holders here on Calguns.
Go ahead and chime in and let me know if having a C&R in ca. is worth it.
    Thanks

Keep in mind you can visit out of state gunshows and pick up c&r handguns (and newer c&r rifles) cash and carry. Also you can buy rifles cheap and have shipped right to you. And you get good discounts at many firearm retailers.

The discounts alone are worth it but being able to buy a rifle right off of a website is pretty cool too

Is that any rifle or just C&R?

+1 on the discounts alone being worth the price of admission.

Having a C&R allows you to cruise around online...find something that strikes your fancy with either a vendor or private seller...and have it shipped straight to you.

There are...no silly DROS paperwork hassle, no paying the state $25 each time to exercise your 2nd Ammendment Rights, no paying an FFL dealer his transfer fee, no two trips with their associated gas and time to the FFL, no waiting at the FFL each time if he's busy, no getting an FFL to send his FFL to the seller, no waiting 10 days once the rifle arrives, no buying a lock or signing a safe affidavit.

And living in California, nothing puts a smile on your face quite like that.

            Some law stuff...

            1. With a C&R you can order an rifle greater than 50 years of age which doesn't violate the Kaliban's assault weapon characteristics. Luckily, this covers many rifles. Some include...

~Mosins (and there are many that one doesn't see at Big 5). For example, ~Finnish Mosins are terrific rifles with an amazing history. You could spend years just collecting Mosins. See here... http://7.62x54r.net/
            ~Russian SKSs.
~Any commercial rifle greater than 50 years of age.
            ~Garands, M1 Carbines, 1903's
~Hakims, FN49s, Arisakas, and much more

            2. With a C&R and you being physically out of state you can purchase C&R handguns and C&R rifles. You get to register the handguns upon returning to California. That's apparently one of the perks of living here. You can also bring back C&R rifles provided they don't violate CAs assault weapons characteristics (like Yugo granade launching M59/66s).

            3. With a C&R and a Certificate of Eligibility you can cash and carry ANY California legal C&R firearm from a California dealer. You still have to DROS, but you walk out the same day with it. This includes C&R handguns. However, this is only for items being purchased through a California FFL. Some CA dealers may need convincing, but it's the law. I've walked out of Big 5 same day with a few M44s. (But I'd call first and talk to a manager to make sure someone there knows how to do it.)

I'm sure I'm not the first knucklehead to say this, "DON'T DO IT!"

Somebody once told me that when you start reloading, you don't actually save money, you just shoot more for the same amount.

Got my discount at Brownells and Midway and have bought all kinds of great stuff. Heck, the more I buy the more I save! I have yet to buy a C&R item!

I got my C&R and COE and now I'm in hock up to my ears! Talk about instant gratification.

If you haven't already read this C&R Primer/FAQ, it's a great way to get started:

You USED to be able to download the forms or get them sent from your local ATF office. That is no longer the case. Now you need to either contact their central distribution center via online or phone. There is no charge to get the forms.

Online: go to http://www.atf.treas.gov/dcof/index.htmF7CR 5310.16 Application for License (Collector of Curios and Relics) Under 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, FirearmsMy application forms showed up in 11 days, from the day I requested them.
The FFL 03 C&R license costs $30 for 3 years.

Not much more I can add that hasn't been said... my FFL 03 has been very useful. Far and away paid for itself. Plus when I'm *ahem* forced... to go and visit my inlaws in Ohio and Arizona... it just makes me smile when - I "have to swing by" some of the larger C&R vendors; and use their pickup window.

An FFL-03 is definitely worth it. You just have to remember that an FFL is useful primarily for interstatewithin California.

I've had my C&R for maybe 6 weeks now and have purchased 6 C&R rifles online, and have saved probably $150 with dealer discounts. Yeah, you have to jump through hoops if you want to buy handguns, but overall, it's definitely worth it.

                            +1 wallet.

-1 wife; my wife bugs me to get her something she likes to shoot. Course then she also bugs me about getting some land; and having our own weapons cache buried like in T2.

As soon as I received my 03 I sent off a copy to Midway... as soon as they e-mailed me they got it.. I placed an order.. I saved $42 with my 03 on that purchase alone.. that paid for the cost of my 03 right then and there....
