My new mosin has a hair trigger!

Ugh I'm so mad. I bought a Chinese carbine from j&g and didn't get hand select(might have helped) and this thing fires if you breath on the trigger. I havrent disassembled and cleaned it up yet.

Is there anything I should keep an eye out for?

I did a search, some guy had a similar prob and the trigger group had been mucked with so he swapped it, another said it was a spring issue.

It might actually be fine, but it feels like a 1 pound trigger, it fires before you realize it.

I would just buy the replacement parts.

    super light triggers scare me.

I agree - just fork over a few bucks and get those replacement parts.

A light trigger could cause a accident - not good

Have you talked to them - Maybe they'll send you another one?

Did you take it apart to check to see if trigger/sear spring screw is loose.

        Where do you live?

IMO first clean it, then check the parts.

Then drop test it, if it drop tests without going off then its probably fine.

All 5 of the T53 I just got have nice, light but not crazy light triggers, none feel unsafe.

If its unsafe then yea get a new sear spring /bolt stop.

The trigger on the Mosin is pretty basic... not a lot of areas that could go wrong. I'd take a look at the trigger spring, make sure the screw isn't loose.

If it still seems questionable i'd just order a new trigger group, not a lot of money for peace of mind.

Drop test it before you do anything else.

Thanks guys! I haven't dug into it since I started a fire the last time I cleaned a rifle in the house (don't ask). I'll take it apart later on and see if it tells the tale. It sounds like it might be a spring issue as well. tomorrow I'm going to the shop so I thought I'd deal with it there.

fwiw it didn't fire after I slammed it on the ground a half a dozen times.

                thanks for the suggestions!

                  Don't ask!?

How can you leave that little gem and not tell the tale! hah So many ways it could have happened gotta hear the story now!

Glad it passed the drop test. Just remember to keep your finger off the trigger till you are ready to fire.

LOL I figured I wouldn't embarass myself further but since I'm pretty well healed up...

On Thanksgiving I got a brilliant idea to clean the cosmo off the SKS...and had to boil some water (gas stove)to sweat it out of the wood...hey here's some gun scrubber I'll use the rest of the can up in the sink...boy that stuff smells bad...still, it's working pretty good...:::WHOOSH::: fireball!!! My upper torso was in the middle of it...my hand was on fire, the recoil spring was on fire, all the hair was burned off my arms and my face got singed.

I spent the rest of Thanksgiving showering the debris off and running water on my burns. The doctor said I was lucky. Mostly first degree burns, like the worst sunburn I ever got in my life, but my hand blistered over and looked really gross. To be honest it hurt but the worst was the itching! It was torture for a couple-three days afterwards. I tried everything, and vinegar worked the best, just in case anybody has the misfortune to require it.

I do lots of dumb stuff, and even though I got jacked up, this one could have been much worse. Jesus was looking out for me. I was just distracted, broke every rule on the back of the can LOL

So yeah, Cosmoline burns just like napalm, as long as you give it some good heat to light it off!

edit: Oh but seriously I couldn't go in the kitchen for like a week LOL once bitten twice shy. I didn't want to go near the scene of the crime!

All I can say is thank God you are relatively okay and I too have done a really dumb thing in the kitchen that should have killed me but I got lucky and was fine. Nothing to do with guns or cosmoline, mine was electricity. If you are ever going to change the heating coil out in an electric stove, don't mistakenly think that since the power is off on the stove that you aren't going to make a nice 220V connection when you remove said coil from the stove. I too was almost a Darwin Award winner.

My father in law is an electrician, I have re-wired half of the house, have never had a moment of stupidity with electricity, other than this. But it only takes one stupid moment and you are toast. Literally.
