My black-friday purchase from J&G Sales arrived a short time ago, cleaned it up and finally got around to taking some pic's.

I got mine over the weekend. I was curious about the rear sight as well. Lucked out with all #'s matching, but your stock looks in better shape. Did you do anything special to the stock?

Looks good! The flip up sight is for longer distances. That plug in the stock is normal. There used to be a sling mount there before it was made a carbine. Thats what my research has pointed me towards....

The rear sights on an M95 are marked in "Schritt" which translates to "Steps". IIRC the sights go from 300 Schritt to 2200 or 2400 or somewhere around there. When you have the sight flipped up, that's pretty much longer distance than you can shoot accurately, it is more like "volley fire" where you are essentially lobbing bullets into the enemy position from a very high angle.

So to answer your question, the site should remain folded down, and it is extremely unlikely you would ever shoot with it flipped up. The only rifles I can think of off hand that you DO shoot with the sight flipped up, are the Springfield 1903, M1917 and some Enfield SMLE.

Took some shop towels with some mild soap and luke warm water, because the stock was filthy. Then I took some Pledge furniture polish and applied it liberally.
As for the stock, I was able to do some research and the stock patch does seem to be were a sling-mount was.

yes, yes, and yes. enjoy that little cannon, these things are a blast to shoot! that said, i hope you've procured some ammo or reloading equipment as this is kinda rare. i haven't loaded any but i will be soon and hopefully get a chance to try them out too. enjoy!

On the ammo: Yes I have a guy (local-area) that I'm swapping some ammo that I don't use anymore (it's been sitting around in my closet) for a bunch of rounds, a little brass and some reloading dies.

You can buy it on-line for around $19.00 for box....a bit pricy

Reloading: Not yet....stay tuna'd
