    Parting out garand

I was thinking about parting out my M1. It is a mixed parts gun. The receiver is a 70XXX made in 1940. I guarantee the receiver has been refinished at least once. I am having issues with the gun not working and I want to start over. Without pictures what do you think I could get for the parts. It's a complete gun. I am wanting IHC or HR garand.

If I wanted to sell the receiver alone, how much is it worth.

Well what's the manufacturer to begin with?

My guess is you'd better sell the whole gun anyway. I suspect whatever issues you have with it can be resolved by a competent gunsmith or switching out a part or two.

Well a receiver from the CMP is $195 but that is luck of the draw. Yours being an early receiver might bring a little more. Frankly I would just sell the whole rifle ............ so what is it doing ( or not ) that is causing the issues

What is it doing? If the barrel is original bore is good it is worth saving. You can normally resolve the issue with replacing some parts. Most M1s with worn internals have timing issues causing jams.

Don't break it down....you should be able to sell it pretty quickly. A lot of Garands were refinished during one rebuild or another...

The majority of Garands are mixmasters. You'll need to collect quite a few to part one together to be a correct... or spend $1,200 AT THE CMP for a correct grade. Just ask. I'm sure you can find a few people that would be willing to help you get that pup on the firing line again. -g

The bolt is locking up. A few weeks ago I was out shooting and the extractor flew out and seize the bolt up. When I field stripped it the firing pin fell. The extractor has been replaced and after cycling a few dummy rounds the gun locked up again.

I have posted on here before about other issues I have came across and people have been very helpful. This gun has been real frustrating. I finally get the trigger group issues worked out and now this. The good thing is that I am getting a lesson on garand troubleshooting.

Have you considered taking it to a gunsmith? I love tinkering a little with my guns but I'd probably take mine in if I had issues like this. But thats just me since I would want to keep my Garand

Yes, but every time you do...? a kitten dies.

If you got it from the CMP? send it back. Otherwise, find an Armorer or post your problem over at the CMP website (with pictures).

As per my post above, worn Garands will have some kind of timing issues and from your description it sound like a timing issue to me. Anything worn like the op rod/Catch, bolt, accelerator, Follower Arm/Rod/Pin etc can wreck havoc on the timing. You need a Bolt Timing Gauge to check for proper timing.
