I think it needs a few small battery operated fans.

Hell, just put a barrel sleeve on it and make it water cooled. Worked for MGs right?

I don't think it was needed, but your gun. I shoot mine, one of the 7, once a month or so, never more than 40 or so rounds. I can see a semi or full auto, but a bolt?

Da Russkies didn't need no stinkin cool barrel.....
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

Is that the "Dueling Banjos" theme from Bubba's favorite love story, "Deliverance", I hear playing soft and low in the background?

I'm not a purist, but cutting the upper handguard like that was a pointless modification. The only thing that accomplishes is that it increases the chances you'll burn yourself when the barrel gets hot.

If the main purpose was for cooling, why not cut everything off around the barrel? Otherwise now you have uneven cooling.

Why not do away with that forward piece of handguard and retaining ring. Then sand out the inside of the lower handguard to float the barrel. It'll still be bubba'd but it will look cleaner and might shoot better.

Just bury that sad looking rifle so that no more collectors have to look at it.

That is just painful to look at.
