Happens to me sometimes with my 91/30. Not exactly sure what causes it, but it happens more often when stripper clips are used to load the magazine. When I put the rounds in, I try to make sure I press down near the back so the round has a slight upward tilt. This usually seems to prevent it.Comment

I would guess weak magazine spring. When I first started shooting Mosins I thought the magazine felt rather loose and sloppy when pushing rounds in, and expected feeding problems. I was pleasantly surprised that the Mosins I have feed flawlessly.Comment

Rim lock is when the rims of the cases get arranged improperly. It commonly happens when you load from a stripper clip and don't check that all the rims are staggered correctly.
It's hard to describe in words but it means that the rim of the case is behind the one below it. When you go to close the bolt you can not move the round forward as its hung up on the round below its rim.
Can't find a good image of it showing rimlock..
But heres a good ilistration of how a stripper clip should be loaded:

Notice how all the rims line up so they are not in the way of the next roundLast edited by Chaos47; 11-26-2012, 8:53 PM.Comment

Mosins have an interrupter to avoid rim lock.
I'm going with a weak mag spring.Originally posted by GoodEyeSniperMy neighbors think I'm a construction worker named Bruce.
Little do they know that's just my stripper outfit and name.Originally posted by ChopperXI am currently cleaning it and I noticed when I squeeze the snake this white paste like substance comes out. Yea, yea I've heard that before.
I have personally tried to induce rim lock my Mosins by loading a stripper clip the opposite way. It was totally locked up. Had to open the bottom of my magazine to get them out... It can and does happen.
Edit:
Tried it again, same rifle. Didn't lock this time. hah but I have seen it happen!Last edited by Chaos47; 11-26-2012, 9:22 PM.Comment
