    Kentucky Long Rifle

As the title suggests, I'm looking for a rifle or kit of similar fashion, but have no idea where to start looking or who is a reputable source.

As it is, I think it'd be a really great project and downright cool to have a replica of our forefathers' rifles mounted above my sofa.

No point in a kit or rifle with ANYthing not American on it. Budget's not too much of an issue, but I'd prefer not to spend modern firearm prices for a working replica of something that existed 250 years ago either.

Thanks in advance and I'm aware the term "Kentucky Long Rifle" refers to no specific weapon in particular.

    First, depends on your budget.

Dixie sells a few of them - You'll pay starting from $450 and up.

    Pedersoli is a good brand.
Lyman makes a few too and are on the cheaper end -

Traditions also makes a kit -

Most of the repros or kits you'll find in a reasonable budget will probably be Italian made.

Thanks goexx, that's exactly the kind of help I was looking for. Can definitely research my options from what you listed.

You can't go wrong with a Lymans Great Plains in 50 or 54 cal. It is a repro of a Hawkens rifle. Lots of people start with that as their first, and I have never heard any regrets.

          Check out Cherrys too....

Dixie has finished custom rifles. Just type in "custom flintlock rifle" in their search engine.
Track of the Wolf has very high quality long rifle kits.

This topic just came up earlier in this forum. See what historical period of rifle you like most.

I "think" that the Lyman Great Plains Rifles are made in Italy...not sure, but they're fine rifles. Also, consider the Thompson Center Hawkens, which are American made & also high quality. Being more from the Plains period, both of these aren't really Kentucky long rifles, though.

If you are looking for something with 100% American content then your choices are limited to more expensive rifles and kits. Track of the Wolf has these starting at around $550 but there is some sophisticated work that needs to be done on your part. A kit with drop-in parts like a Pedersoli, Traditions, CVA etc are made in Europe (Italy, Spain). A 'Kentucky' rifle can be flint or percussion, full or half-stocked but is definitely Not a plains rifle. Look through the online catalogs of TotW, Chambers or TVM to get a handle on the style you want. Dont rush it and choose wisely Padawan.
I built this one from scratch.
