    magazine storage question

I have many C&R hand guns with extra magazines, its really getting difficult to identify which one is for which gun. So I am thinking about putting them in separate marked zip lock bags for long term storage.

Is it OK to apply generous amount of gun oil/break free and put them in ziplock bags? Does it trigger any kind of corrosion? Is it safe?

    Please advice.

Putting a light coating of oil and adding in some little desiccant packets is definitely a good idea. Wrapping them in oil soaked paper would help too.(think of the paper that mosins come wrapped in)

If you can't get a hold of some silica gel packs -- try to minimize the humidity of the air when you bag the magazines. Package everything while sitting near a furnace vent or a space heater.

So keeping them in air tight ziplock bag after applying oil is OK right? BTW, they will be kept in gun safe with golden rod in it.

      thanks

With the golden rod you should not need the lubrication or ziploc's.

I want to put it in a Ziploc, so that I can label the bag.

Is it OK to put the mag in the ziplock?

          thanks

Lightly oil all the parts and toss it in the bag. Shouldn't be a problem. Just squeeze the air out and check on it periodically.

Get some VPI paper and store the mags in the bag wrapped in the paper. The paper has a corrosion resistant treatment which when stored in a bag prevents rust.

              Poke'm with a stick!

after you seal them in a bag it doesn't matter if your safe has a golden rod. you've already sealed the moisture inside. throw in a silica gel pack and you'd be gtg.

You can ventilate the ziplock bags with a fork or toothpick too.

It is as hard as a dab of nail polish.
