saw one with a tula star and 1951 date on the top reciver. looked cool"The gun has played a critical role in history...an invention that has been both praised and denounced...served hero and villain alike...and carries with it moral responsibility. To better understand the gun is to better understand history."Comment

I have a feeling my 2 inbound will be Sino-Soviets.
Why? I guess I'm just lucky. But then again, I've always been lucky when it came to SKS collectin'

True "Sino -Soviets" serial numbers should look something like this..

SKS I received from J&G has a 6 digit serial number, 22xxxx and had an Albanian Bolt carrier. Others have posted 6 digit serials on other forums so there are some showing up with Serial numbers below the 2 million range. None with the 5 digit and letter yet......In following the discussion of the early, blade bayonet, Chinese SKS rifles that were recently imported by Century Arms, I notice that there has been either a significant mis-interpretation or subtle twisted change in the meaning of the term "Sino-Soviet".
This term was originally, and correctly I maintain, used to specifically describe first-year production Chinese Type 56 SKS rifles (identified by their serial number) and delineate them from subsequent years production that shared most of the same general features. Recently it seems to be incorrectly applied to any early Chinese SKS with a blade bayonet.
The defining and distinguishing characteristic of a true Sino-Soviet is its 5 figure serial number consisting of 4 numbers and a Latin alphabet letter. According to accepted theory and belief, the next year, 1957, the Chinese changed the numbering system to one that was much longer, contained 7 (and later 8) numbers with no letters, and the first one (and later 2) identified the year of production.
From what I recall seeing (photos here and other sites, and the 2 at Faith Armory in Temecula that I was able to personally examine) and hearing, these currently available rifles all have serial numbers in the 2 or 3 million range. According to above mentioned theory and belief, this would put their production at 1958-59.
So the question here is, HAS ANYONE SEEN OR ACQUIRED AN ACTUAL, CORRECT, FIRST YEAR SINO-SOVIET SKS FROM THIS BATCH THAT HAS THE PROPER 4 NUMBER/1 LETTER SERIAL NUMBER?Last edited by aghauler; 11-10-2012, 7:53 PM.Comment
