Some Feedback On K31s?

As a studious Calgunner, I know that I want a K31. I know that Simpsons Ltd is a great place to order one, ask for Floyd and he can track down what I want. I missed a beauty last week on the Trader here, I should have jumped on it but I asked a question and two other bidders typed, "I'll take it!" before I ever heard back from the seller. Lesson learned, you gotta be quick in the Trader.

Just out of curiosity, has anyone ordered a K31 from Classic or anyone else? I will probably buy one from Simpsons, but I know I am going to be closer to $500.00, while Classic has them for $349.00. But the Simpsons will have good photos and accurate grading, and with Classic, it seems as if it is a crapshoot as far as condition, them being helpful or communicative. Maybe it's just worth the extra $$ to buy from Simpsons?

If anyone in the LA area reading this has a K31 they want to sell me, clean and with a decent, non-sanded, non cracked stock, I am looking. Feedback welcomed on your Classic vs. Simpsons or anywhere else feedback.

Got mine on the private sale forum here for about $350, its a beauty. A friend of mine picked one up at the Ventura Gun Show at the beginning of this year for $280. Its hard to find one without a chewed up stock but they are usually in really good mechanical condition.

EDIT: They don't have them in stock. Nevermind. J&G Sales. I think they [do not have any in stock].

I will say I have had some very good success on Gunbroker.

Wow, you actually waded through all of the "will not sell to California" posts over there on GB and found one? ;-) I'll take a look.

As of right now, Simpsons Ltd has hundreds of K31s but I find that if I want one with 80-90% bluing and a decent stock, at least $500.00

Classic has them in stock too at $350.00, you can also have them hand select for Walnut stock and or troop tag. But who knows what kind of shape they are in?

J&G, I will check out, I always look at their website but have not checked for K31s. Until my FFL03 arrives, I am stuck though, would have to buy locally cash and carry. Didn't see a single K31 at the Ventura Gun Show last weekend where I scored a nice, clean Hungarian M44.

Yes, with a C&R license, Gunbroker and other auction sites are a good deal. I have educated and changed the mind of more than one seller on GB about California. It's difficult sometimes. But I must point out that there are far more sellers who are willing to deal w/ Californians than not.

Thanks guys. Guess I will have to wait until the ATF blesses me with my FFL03. Sent on 09/25, hope it arrives before December. Received my COE in 11 days, that was amazing, the state bureaucracy beating the federal by such a huge margin.

Take your time and get one with a nice stock, most are chewed up. They are accurate and very well engineered and built. We got ours and our K11 from a fellow Calgunner here in Sac. Here's a pic.

I got a k31 from classic last years and while the blue and bore are excellent the hand select beech stock was chewed up like a lot of them are. The walnut one I got had a crack in it which was repairable but I did not pick hand select for that one.

On the other hand the hand select g1911 I got last month was in amazing condition. Thats from the most recent batch which are family turn-ins. Whether that means all of these current Swiss rifles will be in generally better condition than usual I don't know, it could just be that the older ww1 aged generation didn't have as much of a chance to damage their stocks like the k31 issued militia did.

Simpson handpicks the guns himself in Switzerland, that's where I see him doing so next month at the Lausanne show.

The chewed up stocks are the beech ones and they are easy to restore, remove the shellac with alcohol, steam out most of the dents and fill the remaining dents with light oak wood filler, put new shellac on and nice she is.

I'm a little disappointed in Simpson's. Picked out a K31 from there, and they sent it gound which took 7 days. I felt like I'd picked it up here in California and had the 10 day waiting period.

But, that's not why I'm really disappointed. The discription of the rifle on their web site said that it had a fine elevation adjuster on the rear site. It even was visible in the photos. But, there was none on the rifle when it arrived.

The rifles with the fine adjusters and Diopter sights bring a higher price which I was willing to pay. So, when I called them to tell them I didn't get what they advertised, they said that there was nothing they could do. My only option was to pay to have it returned for credit. Then pick out another rifle and they would ship that back to me at their expense.

They wouldn't give me a partial refund or take one of the adjusters off one of their other rifles and ship it to me. I'd already gone through the entire inventory on thier website, and this was only one of two that I wanted and the other is now sold also. So, I don't want another rifle, I just want what I paid for or a partial refund or something else like a bayonet to make up for what they promised but didn't deliver.

It's bad enough having to buy something off the net sight unseen, but then to not even get what was advertised makes me hesitant to buy one the internet again. And, I was looking at their Eddystone's M1917 and Mausers.

I know mr. Simpson personally and I learned about his business for many years, he's one of the most conservative ones of you guys, complains get solved the right way, a senseless complaint does not give you the right to write about them like that here.

Make up your mind and try posting about this again and I'll solve your problem if there is any at all....
