    Leather Sling Configuration

I just picked up this sling for my Ohio Ordnance 1918 BAR:

I know how to install a plain old 1907 sling with a single frog (hook) on each section, but the two frogs on the longer section of this are throwing me for a darn loop, so to speak. I'm not exactly following the instructions on the website when it comes to the longer section. Is this sling supposed to be for carrying only, or should I be able to use it like the 1907 and tighten down the keepers around my arm for stability?

    Any help appreciated.

What I've set up currently is short section through the stock swivel and long section through the loop of the long section. Frog of short section onto lower end of long section. I've hooked frogs of lower end of longer section onto the upper rows of the long, and put upper frog through the swivel on the gas tube, hooking on to the other end of long. This results in a double thickness of sling supporting the weight of the rifle when carried.

                Upper keeper?

What does the upper keeper "keep" in this configuration? Shouldn't one of the frogs still thread through the keeper?
