    1860 C&B revolver problem

My friend has a CVA 1860 copy that was used but seemed unfired. When he attempted to load it for the first time the rammer came adrift of the barrel assembly and wouldn't push the ball all the way down into the chamber. What holds the rammer in place and what is causing it to push out when he tries to ram the ball into the chamber?

I'm not a gunsmith but I believe it is a cross pin if it's just the whole ramrod separating from the barrel . if the whole barrel is separating with the ramrod from the frame of the gun then it is a rectangular shaped cross pin an the size and shape about 50 percent of a standard style Domino. either way I would take a look at the diagram on gun parts Corp.com also known as numerich arms.

On my F-Pietta 1860 the ram pivots on nipples that line up with holes drilled on the underside of the barrel. Check if yours is the same or similar maybe one of the nipples has sheared off? My ram is held in place with the pivot screwed to the ram, I can take it apart by removing the screw and pulling the pivot (long piece that snaps to the barrel) away from the nipple/barrel and removing the ram. Does that make sense?

The 1860 has a "creeping" lever that pushes the ram rod. No pivot in the barrel like the Walker, Dragoons, or 51 Navy. Can you post a picture of what is happenig? Is the lever and ramrod coming loose, or is the barrel assembly separating from the frame?
