    Entries in C&R book

I just got a K-31 and some Mosins and was logging them into my book and was wondering about the manufacturer/importer column.

On the Mosins I entered the manufacturer/importer as "Mosin Nagant". I don't know who the importer is. Should I try and find out? Is it necessary?

On the K-31 I just listed the manufacturer/importer as "Swiss Karabiner". Same question on this one also.
    Thanks

Unless these are old imports they should have a the importer stamped/engraved on the barrel or the receiver. If they don't I would guess you would note the Manufacture as the country of origin (Russian, France, Germany, Switzerland).
The model is Mosin Nagant, the country is the maker.
Just like Ford is the Maker, and Mustang is the model.

Do they have a mark like this?

The white marking is the import mark, in this case C.A.I. Georgia VT, AKA Century arms.

Some of the other importers marks are less obnoxious, but they should still be there. Also, in the case of the Mosin, the serial number you put in your book will be the one from the importer, as the S/N the Soviets used was on the barrel shank, not the action.

Some older imports have the mark on the bottom of the barrel, toward the muzzle.

I try and enter the actual factory or company that manufactured the firearm. If the firearm doesn't have an importer's mark, I just put "importer unknown."

Although the A&D record example in the regulation shows a heading of "Manufacturer and/or importer," the text in the regulation requires both manufacturer and importer (if any).

For what it is worth, I put both, if it is known. Examples:

Izhevsk Arsenal, Importer: Century Intl Arms, Georgia VT
Mauser AG Borsigwalde, Imported by Rguns Carpentersville, Illinois

I think you may be stressing too much. If mine don't have an import mark, I just list the country of origin. If I know which factory they were made at, I list it. But the key things that they are looking for are the serial number (if it has one), where/who you got it from, and where/who it went to if you sold/traded it. They are not looking to trip you up with trick questions on which arsenal made something up to 114 years ago. They want to be able to see if you have kept track of the firearms that have come into your possession. If you have bought every Mosin that popped up on gunbroker for the last month, and you don't have them listed in your logbook, you may have an issue. They are going to want to known where they all went. If, OTOH, you have the manufacturer listed as Izhevsk instead of Tula because you misread the stamp, they aren't going to care. The most they are going to do is look at the serial number and the other things I mentioned above.
