Any idea if the cannelures being in different spots will affect performance? As in, consistent point-of-impact?

    Is this common?

I'm not used to dealing with cannelured bullets, and this gives me pause. The only other ones I've dealt with are likewise from Hornady, but a bit big for my bore at o.312, so I'm sticking to o.311.

I like not having exposed lead at the nose to perhaps mess with the flight, but is this any better?

    Thanks,

    Josh
Where are you seating the bullet? I'm using the 140 gr SST's in a 7mm, and the lands are 0.050" from the ogive even when I seat the bullet at max length for my magazine. At the magazine length, the cannelure is well beyond the mouth of the brass, so I'm not even crimping them.

Unless your seating the bullet so the crimp is right at the edge of the cannelure, I can't see that it will make a difference. If your not crimping then what difference does it make where the cannelure is, as long as the COAL is consistent.

I've shot hundreds of the Lapua .311 123gr FMJ and they are excellent performers out to 300+ yards. They are flat based so you can't force them into a case neck that has been sized for a .308 bullet, but if you are using the proper sizing they are no problem.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

        Hello,

        How precise are they?

My concern is the shorter the bullet, the longer the jump to the rifling.

Are you giving up groups for this?

I know there has been a lot of speculation on that, but has it ever been proven?
Hornady does list the same BC and SD for both (which is different from the vmax published numbers), and it would seem pretty silly for them to do R&D on something that is at best marketing nonsense.

Has anyone tried the light (~123gr) .310 bullets in a Mosin?
I picked up a box of the 123 grain Vmax to make reduced power gallery loads for my Mosins (I have no safe place to cast bullets and wanted something cheap for the purpose). Using Trailboss, I got 1 inch groups at 50 yards with a M91/30 ex-PU and called it good.

As for the 123 Zmax, Graf's has them on sale for $100 for 500 bullets and I have a box on the way, but I plan to test them in an Enfield No. 4 MkI. I just assumed the Vmax and Zmax were the same but I suppose it doesn't matter to me since I don't hunt with the milsurps.

            Josh,

I shot these out of my Finnish 28-76 last year. The 2 shots at the bottom are where I was adjusting my sight elevation. There are 4 shots in the group and the one I pulled to the left slightly:

At least the ogives were consistant. I would think that would have effect on the accuracy.

You really got to start shooting past 25 yds, Bro...
Actually I only started collecting Milsurps 3 years ago. I think I might own about 24...They're cheaper than guns that will most likely never get the opportunity to kill somebody...

I belong to the group that uses firearms, and knows which bathroom to use.

Tis better to have Trolled & lost, Than to never have Trolled, at all.
