    Korean 30-06 surplus at Turners

the Turners on Clairmont Mesa has Korean 30-06 surplus ammo. 270 rounds in cool ammo cans with korean writing on the sides. 150 grain, ammo headstamped "KA", price was $169. saw about 6 cans on the floor, and 5 cases in the back when they were putting it out.

now all we need to get in are those surp Garands now!!

That stuff doesn't shoot bad but it is rumored to be corrosive. It is also very very dirty. While it is great to have on the shelf, i don't shoot it out of my M1. The brass is pretty nice stuff, almost identical to Lake City.

Why pay more when you can get much nicer non corrosive HXP from the CMP for $.55 delivered. The KA and PS are known to be corrosive and with tax works out to be $.67/round. I just don't get it. Some rifles had blown up with PS stuff and possibly KA.

If you like paying more, corroding the bore or possibly blowing up your rifle please go ahead.

            My rule is as follows:

If it's Boxer primed, go for it, dirty ammo or not. It's reloadable. If it's Berdan primed, then I'll pass on it unless it's the same price as Russian milsurp or Wolf/Tulammo.

Way down on the Moochelle Antoinette approved diet for my M1 Garands...

It would take some serious Civil Unrest, after an absolutely Criminal election cycle, before ever even thinking about that junkfood.

              CMP HXP all the way.

Is there a way to tell by looking at a round?

To tell what dirty? You can look at it and know if it is dirty. Boxer or berdan? You just got to know. Most Europen milsurp are berdan while Koreans and other Asian ammo are boxer.

I could be wrong but as far as I know CMP never sold Korean M2 ammo. Did you buy it directly from CMP?

                        Haven't heard of that either.

Regardless, it's still pretty nasty stuff.

EDIT: If you really want it...?

KA is "corrosive", but.... I have shot a few hundred rounds out of my Garand during the last import back in '03-'06, I left the gun uncleaned after shooting for 9 months at 6800 feet elevation and no rust or anything! At sea level in California it would be a different story though. But it's not bad ammo. It's just a bad price. I bought my KA in 2006 for 18 cents/rd, that INCLUDED en-bloc clips!

Never seen Korean being sold at the CMP and I have been buying from them for 5 years. Everything that has been advertised during that time was LC and HXP.
