are they just doing the "forced match" numbering in house?....and letting people assume things?

Legally, technically, actually, factually, they are lying. -
It's a little more advanced than that. The advertising purposefully misleads the customer to assume they are buying an original collectable piece, however the product actually being sold is essentially an overblown reproduction.
While many of them are made from real counterparts, they are purposefully marked and fabricated to represent a rare condition sample. In most cases, they do it improperly.
To most seasoned collectors, experts, and authenticators they are purposefully misleading customers into buying a shiny museum-esque gun with no actual value. Like a magnetic bracelet or an arbitrary magic charm that wards off lions and tiger attacks.
It's not to say they're not selling a pretty representation. But it's like advertising the mona lisa and getting a printer copy.Last edited by Spiggy; 10-23-2012, 3:46 PM.Originally posted by AJAX22Anti gun BS...

Mitchell's Mausers & everyone who buys from them is what is wrong with modern gun collecting in the US. Idiot buyers with more money than brains who are too dumb or lazy to do any real research on what they want.
"Oh, that K-98 costs $1,000.00 & looks old and worn. This one costs only $500.00 and looks brand new. The $500.00 one must be the better deal."
Russian capture guns that have beenarsenal rebuiltmolested as most have been will never be a real collectible.
WWII military guns never looked like those so obviously fakes sold by Mitchell's.Comment

What's with the sudden rush of Mitchell's Mausers threads? They've been doin this for years...
Mitchell's Mausers is the reason I came to understand how full of crap the Better Business Bureau is. They had a D rating for a while, then out of the blue it got changed to an A, without any change in business practice... I guess they finally decided to pay the BBB for a better rating.Comment

I'd love to get one of the pimp shined mausers they Sell as a shooting gun that I wouldn't worry about too much. but I really don't want to give them money not even 300. So ill keep looking on used racks in gun stores.I'm forever blowing bubbles,
Pretty bubbles in the air,
They fly so high,
Nearly reach the skyComment

Have you seen what the prices on RCs have done lately? Legit SS marked ones are pushing $1k, even regular shooters are over $400 for the most part now.
Sure, they won't be as collectible as a bolt m/m or a mint/matching K98....but there is still a collectors market for them.Originally posted by GoodEyeSniperMy neighbors think I'm a construction worker named Bruce.
Little do they know that's just my stripper outfit and name.Originally posted by ChopperXI am currently cleaning it and I noticed when I squeeze the snake this white paste like substance comes out. For $200, I would've bought an MM. They are said to be fine shooters. I'd have drilled and tapped it for a scope, gotten the bent bolt, and used it as a good shooter. But for $300, that seems high."San Francisco Liberal With A Gun"
