    Mosin Screw Trick

    Hi All,

Not particularly unique or difficult to do, but I thought I'd share this. I got tired of my action screws shooting loose:

    That fixed it!

Red Lock tight wouldn't do it?

Red sometimes takes heat to remove, blue would be better but would still be hard with a flat head screwdriver.

Mine always work loose and for a shooter that set screw is not a bad idea. You could locktight the set screw and heat it to remove with a soldering iron because it is short and the threads are close to the head.

Do they come loose after one range session? I don't recall ever having one come loose.

          Mauser...

Josh, awesome mod. I need to order one of your front sights and drag out my M44.

I just take the action screw out, clean and degrease it, and then use blue lock-tite, although I suppose red lock-tite would be more appropriate for the Soviet era rifles

And, yeah. . . don't tell the Mauser fans you jacked their idea

How about a lock washer? Anyone try one?

next time using a very small brush or some "other" tool, smear a little water proof glue into the threads in the stock.
not much just a filler for were the threads have spread the opening a bit.

reinstall as normal (after the glue has cured a good 24 hrs..40 hrs is better).

most people over use it then it's a PITA to get out

only takes a small bit to hold anything, I will only put a small bit on the first thread (use a wooden toothpick) not even a drop as big as this -> * <- will hold most everything, even on huge much bigger bolts

I don't understand why you would drill a hole in a good magazine housing when locktite would solve the problem. Now you need 2 separate tools to take the rifle apart, so that's an inconvenience. What about the rear screw? Are you going to drill the tang and stick a screw in there too?

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

                            +1

While I realize it's the OP's rifle and he can do as he wants...but myself being a purists.....ouch.
Seems a quite bit of an over-kill for a loosening screw. +1 on loctite.

BTW OP, you do make some cool sight mods though!

my screws do work loose, when i bring a referb mosin back to life i clean and oil all the threads. i do not want to possibly hurt the threads with lock tight too much. i just remember to snug them after shooting.
