Anything Else With My M1 From CMP?

Hey guys I'm about to order a service grade Garand and am wondering what else should go along with it. Should I order ammo and clips from CMP or do other places have better deals on ammo? They only have one type of ammo order in stock and a 25 pack of clips. Just curious if I should throw those along with my order.

Also, I heard some people said they request stickies or something? Are you requesting serial numbers? Is it just a preference or is there something worth requesting and if I were to do I just add a note?

Lots of questions I know so thanks to whoever helps.

200/ea. Loose M2 ball (HXP) and the 25/ea. CMP3 clips (milspec by AEC), both from the CMP e-store, is by far the way to go.

CMP has the best deals on ammo and clips that I have found. As far as stickies, people have made request for things such as WWII serial numbers or GI wood or new wood . They usually do this by putting a note on the order form.
The way it works is if what you request happens to be in the group of rifles that they are pulling inventory from at the time and is right there in front of them, they will try to honor your request, but they will not start searching through crates of rifles for you.

Thanks guys. My 650 dollar order just jumped to 780 lol.

I would definitely like a WW2 SN but not sure on the stock if I got to choose. New wood would be sweet but so would a GI. Hmmmm.

If you are ordering SA SG, chances are your will get a post war SA. Put a stickie as it can't hurt.

I agree that CMP has the best deal going for HXP ammo. Be warned that the 200 round can is a hodgepodge of different year as it is a delinked MG rounds. HXPs are decent rounds within the same lot number but are known have used different powders and charge over the two decades of production.

So if you want accuracy the 200 round can HXP is not the way to go and better off with a much more expensive Hornady also available from the Estore. However, if you want plinking round, you can't beat it.

Thanks for the info. Definitely getting the can for plinking.

To anyone who is a CRPA member, how did you show proof of membership? I have only received a receipt in my e-mail. Is that good enough or should I wait for my membership card?

Send the email receipt, they will let you know if they need copy of the card. This way you can get it going.

Thanks, I'll get the rest of my stuff printed/copied then notarized and sent.

Yep, get a nice bayonet from them and a new recoil spring from orion7.

Not so sure about the bayo. Most are "Greek black" and some been resharpen. Don't expect them to be anywhere near the condition of my mint SA 1920 sword below. I agree Orion stainless steel op rod spring is the way to go.

I'm not really interested in a bayonet. Knowing me it would just sit in a box.

Is this the spring you guys are referring to? http://www.m1garand.com/store/m1_gar...od_spring.html

I am not familiar with M1s, why should I replace the spring?

Yep that is the Orion 7 SS spring. I have never seen it on my rifles but have heard of other with broken spring. They are cheap enough to just replace all your rifles with Orion 7 SS spring.

Might also look over at garandgear.com at their Ported Gas Plug, and have a look at their Operating Rod Spring while you're there.
