Another Guy looking at a K31

I'm about to pull the trigger on a K31 and I am thinking about ammo. I found some 7.5 Swiss at Widners. Looks like it is around $.50 a round for surplus match ammo. Is this about the best price for this ammo? Any other recommendations?

I do reload but don't expect to reload 7.5 any time soon so I just looking for a supply for a while. BTW, should I save the brass and reload these shells?

The GP-11 surplus is match grade and that is a normal price. It is Berdan primed and, though it is reloadable, IMHO that's not worth the effort. Reload, it's the only way to go.

Surplus ammo is fine but most have Berdan primers which can't be removed with the pin in a standard resizing die. So, you can save the brass, but your going to have to go to a lot of trouble to remove them and you still need to find replacement Berdan primers. It's even more trouble converting Berdan primers to Boxer, but it can be done. Look it up on YouTube and decide for yourself if it's worth you trouble.

I'd go with Prvi ammo which is available for around $.78 a round. It's also available under the Wolf brand name. It's reloadable and has normal US boxer primers. The reload for about $.25 per round using one of many suitable .308 bullets, LR Primers and a large choice of powders.

Reloading dies are available from Lee and RCBS, but I didn't include the $70 price tag in the cost of reloads.

I guess I was thinking it was Boxer. Maybe I'll go with the Prvi and start reloading when I shoot it all up. I'll probably have more questions when I get to that point.
          Thanks

            ^^^

Reloading is the way to go!

Save your Prvi brass since boxer brass is easier to reload.

However, save and sell the GP11 brass since folks reload those cases.

Not that difficult to reload GP11 Berdan. Done it with RWS Berdan Primer and the RCBS Berdan Decapping tool. Once the decaper pin is setup properly it can be a breeze and then use a hand primer tool just like most would use to re-prime. I'll have to redo the vid sometime with the new camera.
