    My Persian Mauser

I just got what I believe is a Persian Mauser from my father in law. He gave it to me so that I could either add it to my safe or sell it. I don't know much about it. I'm guessing it is a 98/29. It's in amazing condition. Based on how C&R sellers rate their rifles, I would say this is excellent.

Anyone know anything about it and what the value is?
    Thanks

I have seen them "As new" go for $800, used $400-600 on avarage.

Problem is finding a "Collector" who will pay $800 for a rifle that came in to the US mostly in "As New" condition for $500 15 years ago. Most of them are in great shape.

So what do you do with them? if your a shooter you buy a Bruno 98/22 which is the same rifle (accuracy wise) and install a better taller front sight (something you cannot do on a Persian due to low sight ears. Or you can try and shoot the inverted V sights.

If your a wealthy collector you pay the top$ and sleep with your baby.

If your a "Collector" (investor) you wait, and wait, and wait, and wait until you find someone to pay top dollar, how much more appreciation can you get out of the rifle that is already at the top end of military mauser rifles?

Market value now is around $500-600 in your condition if you can find someone to pay that.

It looks really nice. I agree with the $500-$600 range. If you don't need the money, I'd hold on to it, they aren't that common.

Wow, thanks for the info. I had no idea that it was such a collectors piece. It is a beautiful rifle, just not sure if it's my cup of tea. I guess we'll see how it looks next to my other rifles.
Sucker is too long for my safe, thats for sure. I already have a 1886 Trapdoor that has to be in the front of the safe for the door to close.

Haha, I just talked to my father in law and as soon as I told him the value was possibly <$500 he said sell it. Sell it now!

Guess I'll be putting it in the Market Place.
Thanks again for all the info.

Do you have the bayonet? Those bayos are pretty pieces.

Yeah, I left the bayonet up in Burbank at my in laws house. I'll get it next weekend. If I end up selling it before I get the bayonet, I'll still get it to the buyer.

It ain't. Samco has the bayos for $40 too.

I know a couple guys who have bought these rifles to make good rifles out of.

Who is the importer? It actually matters, and obviously there was one.

I approve this rifle. 500-600 on the Market but could get more if the collector really needed it. Honestly I would hang on to it.

It has that dot matrix number on the left side of the receiver, so it was imported. If it is not obvious, look on the muzzle end of the barrel. Probably Century, or "CAI". Anything is better.

I can't find a importers mark anywhere on it. The only thing I can read is the dot matrix serial number Y3***

Ok. It is worth what Samco wants plus what shipping and transfer would be. If it is really pretty (and I think it is because of the stock), more.

You might get $800 out of it, on the best day, and buy a Yugo and a bunch of ammo, or something else.

Just don't tell your significant other of your high expectations for it, because it will be spent already.
