    Considering a Swiss K31

You guys are hard on a man's wallet, you know that? All this talk about how incredibly well these rifles are built, how they're MOA shooters in capable hands, how you'll 'get it' the second you pick one up... I hate you. I hate you all.

So with that said, mind helping a brother out?

I'm eyeballing one of these from Classic Firearms: http://www.classicfirearms.com/c-r-e...-carbine-rifle

I'm thinking it would be really cool to opt for a walnut stock and troop tag. Agree? Disagree? Why?

Is there a better source, maybe? I'm nervous ordering sight unseen (would be a first time for me). Any other suggestions?

And ammo: it looks like GP11 can be had from Sportsman's Guide for around 50cents per. http://www.sportsmansguide.com/net/c...?p=WX2&i=77536 Good deal? Should I look elsewhere?

This will be my first Swiss. I'm excited Mind helping me make as few mistakes as possible? Thanks, you bastards

I will say that if you like hitting where you are aiming, a K31 is right for you. I'll also say that anyone who does business with CTD or SG is only hurting their 2A rights. You'ld be doing less damage to your gun rights if you just sent the money directly to the Brady Camp. Please, look for another sorce for ammo or, bettter yet, RELOAD!!!! I load frangible plinking rounds for my K31s for less than 15 cents a round!!!!!!!

?? Got a link to more reading on SG or CTD's anti 2A doings? I know they have restrictions on what they'll send where, but I was under the impression those were decisions based on potential (or even realized) legal ramifications, not 2A philosophies.

Having said that I have ordered ammo from both within the last year. Lots of ammo delivered with no problem at all.

If I'm missing something please educate me! Definitely don't want to support those who don't support us...

I've dealt with Classic Arms and have been pleased with the results.

The way they go about restricting items is the problem. Instead of just saying that it's against their company policy or that they choose not to send certain items to certain locations, they both say that some items "CAN'T" be shipped to some areas. Many smaller operations use their publications as an indication of what is or isn't legal in certain areas. Many times, there is no law restricting said items but, CTD and SG both imply that there is. This makes smaller vendors think that these large companies have had their lawyers carefully research the laws and are being forced to comply with them. In turn, these smaller vendors also refuse to ship legal items to places that said items are perfectly legal in. This ends up hurting everyone involved and only helps the antis by keeping legal firearms related items out of more restrictive areas. Yea, SG has refused to ship sling swivels, cleaning patches and other items that they feel are illegal in CA because, said items could be used on an AR15. Even before the OLL movement, they refused to aknowledge that there are thousands of legally owned AWs here and that sending parts to CA isn't illegal. I will not give either one of them one red cent since, it only goes to promote their keeping legal items from places that they are legal.

Your best bet is www.simpsonltd.com Best selection and very accurate descriptions. Call, ask for Floyd. Explain you want walnut w/a troop tag. He'll go find one for you. Their prices may be a bit higher but you can rest easy that what you order is what you'll be getting. I've bought Three K-31s, three SR 1911s and a K-11 from them, all were outstanding.

I've heard too much negative about Classic, I won't bother with them

Don't do it! They are addicting! Next you'll be shooting them at long-range matches and Vintage Military Silhouette matches... it is a powerful drug!

I see what you're saying, but I don't know if that speaks to an anti 2A approach. And by definition, its not price gouging when there are other retailers to choose from. Its hard to ignore too when you use aggregators like gun-deals or Slick Guns and they constantly come up as one of the best price per round options.

As for SG: there was one item I went to buy that was listed as a no go for my area. I called, we discussed, they checked and sure enough, it was good to go. They fixed their side and I got my item (a bayonet). Hard to argue with the customer service I received in that example.

I'm not trying to defend either company, but I am skeptical at the anti 2A claims. Bad business decisions? Maybe. Anti 2A? I dunno...

Thanks for the link to Simpson! Awesome site! I don't see a non sniper K31 though that's available. I'll give 'em a call soon and see what's what.

They've got a few hundred K-31s. Go to Longguns, military, swiss and then just start scrolling down....
