Just got this rifle from some of my grandfathers old things. It was sporterized years ago. Serial number says it was made in 1918. What do I have here? I've done a little research on the net. Is this safe to shoot? The ears protecting the rear sight have been lopped off. It has a receiver mounted target sight now. Thank for any help.

"What do I have here?" Well you know what you have, a sportered M1917. They can be very accurate with a barrel in good condition. What you don't have is a valuable rifle anymore. But it should be a great shooter. The receivers are very strong and if your parts aren't worn it shold be good to go for many years of use.__________________________________________________ _____________________________________
