So I'm to be made a Citizen on the 24th of October, what C&R to commemorate?

    Congrats!

Think about getting an M1903 rifle, although the Garand is always a great pick as well.

A Model of 1917 would be cool, too! It's one of my favorite C&R's (it's the rifle Sergeant York used in WWI!)

I've had the pleasure of doing business with Harmoniums. He's one of the good guys, for sure.

As a second-generation immigrant (my family is from Holland) let me say, Congratulations!!!

You will never, in your life, have a chance like this again.
If I were you, I would not pass this up. I would not let this go by...this is rare.
      Come on...what harm??

I was born in the coombe hospital in Dublin, Ireland. I was raised in Celbridge Co Kildare.
I came to the USA on November 4th 1999 on a H1-B visa following a girl I had been seeing in Ireland who hailed from New York.
Well not exactly following, she dumped my *** 2 weeks before I was due to leave!
I still came, and started work in Allentown PA, a few years later I met my wife and we moved out to CA in 2007

Looks like tomorrow is the day (Oct 24th). Congratulations, and welcome!

Since we're talkin' American firearms, I'd say go to the CMP and get yourself an M1 Garand while they're still semi-affordable.

Next choice would be an old S&W Combat Magnum in .357M. IIRC, Gen. Patton is said to have carried one and called it his "killing machine".

After that would be an S&W "Victory" in .38 Special. This is a version of the original M&P (now called the Model 10) that used a more plain wooden stock than the "fancy" wooden ones sold before and after the war, for more expedient production. Yep, they saw combat.

Of course, the M1911A1 would be a mighty fine choice, too. As I understand it, the M1911A1 is the only handgun with a confirmed shoot-down against a Japanese Zero! Gotta love that .45, eh?

I hope this doesn't offend you, but I just read what you had to say in an Irish accent without even trying to, just spilled out Irish.
I say you need an M1 Garand and appropriate memorabilia + ammo.

actually just remember that you are already getting an M1 garand. In which case you really should get an M1 carbine, a bayonet and magazines. Or a 1911 with a nice holster.
A lot of ammo for whichever gun you decide to get.

Funny how the brain does things like that. The recent Morgan Freeman photo making the rounds is a good example.

I read Seven Pillars of Wisdom by T. E. Lawrence(AKA "Lawrence of Arabia") this year, and had a hard time not hearing it in the voice of Peter O'Toole.
