CMP is offering 6 Million ones now and they are $50 more, does it mean they are running out of Garands?Comment

No according to Orest. Cmp supply will last 2-3 years. These are special garands hence the $50 extraIf you Are not behind us, then take your place in front of us" Devil Doc, Corpsman Up!

What makes them special is that they were the last ones made and that they *might* be in nicer shape than some of the older Garands. I would take a chance for the extra $50.00, you might get a beautiful one and even if you don't, you'll have a great shooter.
The 6s may have a slight amount of extra desirability to a collector. But then again, who buys Garands to sell them? Buy 'em to shoot and to polish and admire.NRA Certified Metallic Cartridge Reloading Instructor, Shotgun Instructor and Range Safety Officer

I would not hold my breath on that 2-3 year time frame. If the sitting POTUS wins reelection, you will see that number slashed dramatically. My advice is get a few large safes and max out your annual limit. When the CMP sells out, you will be golden.Comment

I'm interested in the history and shooting the thing to honor that history. How likely is it these last ones built saw wartime action in an American's hand?Last edited by BigJ; 10-09-2012, 2:40 PM."This nation will remain the land of the free only so long as it is the home of the brave." - Elmer DavisComment

No chance as the 6M were built in 1957 so too late for the Korean conflict. I know the US did not officially use M1 in Vietnam. The South Vietnamese might have used a limited number M1s of M1s but those never made it back to the US to go to Greece.Comment

Consider:
These are CMP Service Grade Garands. you are only guaranteed a 6M heel-stamp on the receiver... that's it. Every other part could be a replacement. That said, good chance that the Bbl. is original and in pretty good shape.
That said:
What makes these 6M really Special is that they have parts that are interchangeable w/ 6 Million other M1 Garand rifles... pretty cool, huh.
(it's a "Collector" thing.

My HRA Service Special is a 1954. I bought it because I wanted a pretty M1 I could shoot. My next M1 will be regular Service Grade, probably a Springfield. I like all M1s. Wish I could afford to have a safe full of them.

The 6 mil guns are a small block of guns, made under peacetime conditions. They are, in appearence some of the nicest ones built. there are oddities as within that block there are about 500 made by HRA, as well as some termed "X" guns, those having an "X" before the serial number for some reason. So basicly some quirky collectable guns within the serial range.Comment
