    Cheap brass case 7.62x54R sources?

Anyone know where cheap brass case 7.62x54R ammo is sold?

I just need brass case ammo for when I go to the local ranges since I don't think they'll allow surplus or other steel case ammo that runs the similar spec as Tul and similar brands lol.

I'll use surplus for when I get out to the outdoor ranges, desert, or BLM.

Cheapest I found was Prvi @ $15 bucks at sgammo for match grade ammo. I plan on getting a single stage reloading setup after this.

    Thanks.

The cheapest brass case I ever saw was the Yugo surplus that is now about gone (and is corrosive though non-magnetic). The second cheapest was the Olympic brand stuff I stocked up on a few years ago. Not very accurate, but cheap. Today, that match-grade Prvi is about as cheap as it gets for brass-cased x54r, unless you reload your own, which I do.

Thanks Full Clip, pretty much my conclusion is that if I want to shoot at the local ranges 15 mins away as compared to 45 mins out to an outdoor range, I need to reload since buying brass over and over isn't feasible. I guess I'll start at 120 rounds of brass @ $100 bucks shipped, then reload those rounds over and over.

Oh really?! Yes I'm in San Diego, but I wasn't sure if any of the local ranges allowed surplus. I guess I'm going there for the surplus shooting alongside sbrg. Just hate their hourly rates and sometimes long waiting lines. Are they ok with steel core that some of the surplus types contain like the silver tip?

Some brass cased ammo uses steel jacketed projectiles. So don't count on being able to shoot all brass cased ammo if your local range prohibits steel jacketed projectiles.

I found the cheapest PPU at AIM Surplus, they were selling the standard PRVI for $12.50 per box but I just looked on their site and the only thing shown is the match for $15.

If you do end up reloading 7.62X54r, there are a lot of us here that load it and can offer up some advice if needed.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Only rules at P2K are "No .50BMG, No armor piercing." The steel core silver tip is not AP.

Watch your time at P2K. 1 hr + 10 minutes = 2 hrs. I decided it was cheaper to just buy the PRVI and shoot at ASC unless I really want to sight in with the milsurp.

Ahh!!! You guys give a lot of great information. I highly appreciate it. Thanks for the heads up Brian!

I think I'll be visiting p2k more often now, only been there once. I guess I'll have to spam rounds for 55 minutes and get out! I think I'll go sometime this week.

Wolf Gold and standard Prvi Partizan are the same stuff in different boxes. The standard Prvi is actually pretty good brass. The match Prvi, obviously, is also going to be good.

If you want non-magnetic 7.62x54R, you're definitely looking at reloading. If you can cast as well, that's a help, since cast "boolits" of the proper size, lubing, and (to a slightly lesser extent) hardness are good up to 2,500 ft/sec if gas-checked.

Does anybody know if we can shoot steel case 7.62x54r at DGM? I heard that they allow russian steel case only.
