School me on swiss rifles please

    I'm looking into 1911, 1896/11, and k31.

I'm just beginning my journey of researching but am hoping a few of you guys could school me a bit on the rifles and which one(s) to seek buying first and things of interest or things to avoid.

I see CAI has some available but are only "good" condition. I want to say thanks in advance for your replies.

You can go to my Brother's thread on Swiss rifles at the top of the board first, and then go here for the best of the best. http://www.simpsonltd.com/index.php?...e08a4cdbf2cc24

Shoot Latigo a PM. He seems to be the Swiss rifle expert here.

1911sr is Lat's sis, she's just as knowledgable. www.swissrifles.com is a good source, then link to the swiss rifle message board, you'll be reading for hours.

Start with a Karabiner 1931 (K-31), newest rifles, generally the best condition. You'll be hooked once you shoot it. Walnut stocks up to WWII and then they changed to beech. As to the 1911 series, there are two, the SR G-1911 (long rifle) and the Karabiner 1911 (K-11). bolts are generally thought to be a little weaker then the K-31 but I have all and shoot the heck out of them. The G-1911 is my personal favorite, I'm shooting MOA out to 500 meters from a rest.

Lots of history on them, start reading, get one and don't forget to check under the butt plate for a soldier tag on the last guy that had it in Switzerland.

Here is my stable, three k-31s, one with standard battle sights, one with a Swiss Products diopter sight and one with a 1951 Weaver K-3 w/post reticule. Two SR G-1911s (one is actually a 96/00 upgraded to 1911 specs) and the extra K-31 on the end is my shooting partner's. We did a Swiss Postal shoot yesterday, I shot in five catagories. Like I said, once you get one, you'll be hooked.

Get one of each as they are built of the highest quality and build like well as Swiss watch.

I've about given up the Swiss thing and was about to divoce all my Swiss ladies due to the ;leaf sights I just can't master. However, two weeks ago pulled out one of my K31 from the back of my safe and shot if for the very first time. Not sure what it was maybe all 66 moons of Jupeter along with our own moon and the sun lined up and I was knocking the chickens like there was not tomorrow. Moved to the pigs and turkey same results.

Well I have a change of heart and me and the Swiss ladies are getting back together again.

Thanks 1-M-42, but you do have a true expert here. His name is Guisan.

I think the 1911 long rifle or 96/11 is slightly more accurate than the K31. The K31 is not far behind, however. And has been pointed out, the K31 has a somewhat stronger action that fully encloses the case head.

The K-11 is generally thought to be the least accurate because it has the shortest barrel, with the shortest sight radius and the lightest barrel profile.

Among the three you listed, you wont be sorry with any of them. You don't mention your age, but if you are starting to suffer the visual indignities of middle age, you might appreciate the fact that the sights on the 1911 long rifles are a few inches further away from your eye than the K31.

My sons and I have been shooting the Swiss rifles at various vintage rifle matches, my sons to good effect.

Yep, I was certainly remiss in failing to mention Guisan!
