M1 Parts? Now with Pics of my SA M1 from CMP

I just received my SG SA (#42xxxxx) from the CMP. It was covered in dried up cosmoline. I noticed that the front swivel is bent. Also, the rear ferrule on the front handguard is also a bit mangled. Where is the best place to buy USGI parts to replace these? Or do you recommend leaving them as is to retain the history of the piece?

Oh yeah, the ME=1+ and the TE=2+. It has an original GI stock in very good condition. I can see the DoD cartouche and the circle P proof -mark. I can see the cosmoline caked under the front handguard. This thing needs a thorough cleaning before shooting.

The barrel says HRA 6-52. So maybe this is a Korean War M1?

What's a good cleaning rod to get for the barrel? I wonder if boresnakes will work?

    Thanks for any info.

Congratulation! Now remember if you post something like this, you MUST post pics or it did not happen.

Depends how mangles the ferrule is. If it is not interfering with the OR, I would leave it alone. Springfield Sporters should have the front sling swivel. Depending on how it is bent, you can probably persuade it to shape.

Gorgeous SA congratulation. However, that is a wrong stock as it is an HRA with what looks like an early 3/8 DAS. If you ever decide to make your rifle more correct with an SA stock let me know as I have a couple I can trade you.

As far as the bent/mangled parts, the front sling swivel can definitely be bent back. From the pictures the ferrule looks okay but the upper band is bent. Again it can be bent back. Not sure where you are located but I have the upper band and might have the sling swivel as well.

Nice score, 4.2 Mil. serial numbers are not that common. They are among the first rifles built when they started up production again in the early 1950s.

You got a very nice example of a HRA , you dont know how lucky you are
The rear swivel is supposed to be bent

So the bent parts are not going to interfere with the proper functioning of this rifle? I really want to clean it and start shooting.

They dont send out rifles that are not functionally correct (unless you order it that way)

Clean it and shoot it. If it acts up, call them they will deal with it. Its piece of history, a gen-u-wine tool of American freedom. Bent but functional parts are part of the deal.

That is beautiful rifle. The next one I order I am going to ask reeall nice for GI wood. I wanted a clean HRA shooter last time and I got a slightly used late fifties model with a new birch stock.

I was thinking Springfield this time for a bit more history, but I need to look into to it.

The sling swivel NO. However, the upper band might as the OR travels up and down just a fraction of an inch under it. Do a tilt test without the stock and with the stock. You can easily fix both by bending them back.
