    1895 Nagant Revolver Question

    Hello,
We just got one of the Russian Nagant revolvers in our shop, more as a conversation piece than anything else, but when I knocked off a few layers of cosmo I discovered a very fine little revolver in almost perfect condition. I like odd old weapons and this one put a smile on my face. Anyway, I was surprised what we got for less than $100 and now I want to keep it for myself and real curious to see how well this thing will shoot. I have a few boxes of the surplus Nagant 7.62 (corrosive) ammo but I was told there may be a possibility to shoot .32 long modern ammo through, but I imagine you would want very lite loads.

If anyone out there has any experience with these guns please share...do they shoot well? anything to be mindful of when shooting? any bad experiences.

    Thanks

Needs a coversion cylinder to shoot .32 long. These aren't at all powerful, but it can be suppressed with extreme efficacy.

It does not need a conversion cylinder to shoot .32Long.

It can shoot .32S&W, .32Long and .32Magnum without any modifications.
However, due to no gas seal with those cartridges, it may bulge the cases when shot.

You will need a conversion cylinder in order to shoot .32ACP.

Graf & Sons, the reloading authority, has a wide selection of reloading supplies, shooting supplies, ammo and more.

Interesting to shoot very soft recoil with a med heavy trigger. Good practice pistol.

          This is a lot cheaper.

I own two, one with a conversion cylinder to shoot 32 ACP the other shoots 7.62x38.

I have only fired one with the 32 acp cylinder. Just be aware that it is pretty anemic more like a 22 IMO and the last box of 32 acp I bought was > $20. It is a novelty and has an interesting cylinder sealing mechanism.

Thanks guys, I appreciate all the good feedback. I actually purchase the gun and ammo from J&G...they have some great prices and I don't mind paying retail on stuff like this.

Check out the non-corrosive 7.62x39R ammo from Prvi Partisan and Wolf Gold (same thing, really). Fiocchi makes it too. You don't have to convert it into anything.

With that said, the trigger pull truly sucks, especially in double action.

What sucks is commerical ammo is loaded to target specs and pretty anemic, the original Soviet military ball ammo was closer to the .32Mangum power range. But, no one offers the original Soviet military ammo.

The double-action trigger pull really does suck.

                        QFT.

I have done all of the above except for .32ACP. I never bothered to buy a conversion cylinder.

Hot .32 H&R Magnum is not really advisable. I have done it. But it spits powder and gases and bulges the cases badly. It will probably have negative effects on the function of the pistol if too many are run through it. [I must add that I don't know that for sure. I have heard also that the Soviet mil ammo was hot. How hot, I don't know.]

They are fun little pistols. And they are pretty accurate (mine is) if shot using single action. Double action is for gags and gaffes ;-)

                        I'm sure you meant 7.62x38R Nagant. :-)

I tried .32 magnum in one- it split every case.

The .32 long will work fine in the stock cylinder but will bulge every case.

I told my buddy just to stick with the 7.62x38r. It's cleaner, quieter, and more fun! the gas seal means you never have to clean the cylinder

Milsurp x38r is clean? I thought it was corrosive just like x54r milsurp ammo?
