I'm in the market for a Chinese Type 53. Not only are they cheaper than the M44, they are one of the few rifles with Chinese characters on them! I want to see what is the best place the get one. I don't mind paying a bit more for a good one say in the $200 if necessary.

Chinese Type 53

Kinda feeling the need for one or two myself. The first ones seemed to be pre-degreased, and rough looking, but some of the newer pictures from SOG and other dealers look a little more presentable. They sure seem to be an ideal candidate for truck gun duty.Originally posted by ysr_racerPlease don't bring logic and reason into an interwebs discussion

Gun broker and Gunboards have ones in good condition from time to time. Last one in great condition I saw on GB actually went for 575 bucks shipped. Normally they seem to go for 250+.
Now, if you were to get this current lot with generally terrible stock, I think the cheapest shipped to CA would be from j&g sales if you buy 2 or more. Which would come out to 129 shipped each. If you were to order just one, aim would be cheaper at 144 shipped. Everyone that sells one in the 120-160 price range will be from the sale terrible lot though.Comment

It really varies, but chances you'll get a good stock is pretty slim. I haven't seen anyone get a good looking one from this current import batch. If anything you can probably just look around on gun broker. Some listings will post the same rifles as AIM and J&G, but actually list them individually at a higher mark up. You'll at least get an idea of what you're getting with those. Still cheaper than getting an M44 probably.Comment

I know that a Gunbroker seller from out-of-state is about to auction one off with Vietnam capture papers. If you're looking for a collector's rifle, there will be your chance.WTB: French & Finnish firearms. WTS: raw honey, tumbled .45 ACP brass, stupid cat.Comment

Yeah the pictures of the ones from SOG were much nicer than those from J&G, Aim looked ok too.Originally posted by Scuba Steve33Indeed. I'm on the Mosin dick after picking up my first one recently.

I just grabbed one on auction from GB.
I looked at all the photos carefully, and cherry picked one with matching numbers
Bores were advertised as G-VG, but mine just had a bunch of cosmo in it- came out excellent

But my wood is a bit beat up, like all the other ones. Metal finish is a conservative 90-95%, nicer than their pics- I was quite happy.

I got one from aim cosmoed up cleaned it out bore was excellent. Blue is 85% wood looked pretty bad but for 169 not the worst a few weeks ago they had another batch but for 119. Mine is a great shooter. Smoothest trigger light pull smooth action I love itsent from the depths of my subconsciousComment
