I know, Mosins are $100 rifles, and he got this one on the cheap.

But that's sort of the point. With a cheap "project" gun, you can do whatever you want. :-) If the rifle shoots well, and you like it, then sure, go ahead and have it re-blued. If you do, just have it done well, with the full hot-blue-treatment process, no shortcuts. The rifle will look like brand-new afterwards.

Then, if you wish, you can put a Boyd's Classic riflestock on it, get the bent bolt, and a scope mount. You will have one heckuva long-range rifle, that also looks good.

I reblued one of my M44's that was a sporter...(yes bad word I know) But since it was a Sporter I figured what the hell and wondered what a reblueing would do for it. It does smell like hell and I am pretty sure it is nasty stuff for your hands, nose etc... and the sink (the wife absolutely loved me for that) It did not turn out as I thought it would with the cool blue black and gray coloring you see on quality blued weapons but rather a dark almost black look, however, I did it right I guess as it has not worn off and stands up to some generous scrubbing after a day of shooting surplus ammo and looks better than the bare metal, black paint and pitting I could see before hand....I think it cost around 12 buck at the PX on base.

Do whatever you want with it if you expect to keep it. I'm swapping barrels on one of mine that I don't expect to ever sell.

+1 for paint, quick, cheap, and easy.
