I recently picked up a Steyr Hahn in an online auction, I knew it wasn't a beauty queen when I bought it but since I just wanted a shooter that was OK.
On receiving it and doing a closer inspection I found that I could just make out the top of a crown and an M----2 on the slide and on the other side on the frame I found the crowned eagle inspection mark so I knew I had a Romanian contract Mle1912 Steyr Hahn with a ground off crown.
Every thing I had read about 9mm Steyr said it had a .355 bore so I loaded up some 9mm steyr cases with .356 cast bullets and found they would'nt go into the chamber or for that matter come out of the magazine when the release was pushed, I slugged the bore and it turned out to be
.353, I resized some of my bullets to .354 and loaded them up and found they chambered and would come out of the magazine. I shot the pistol on Saturday and it shot just fine with the smaller bullet loads.
This got me to wondering if the Romanians had a different specification for their barrels than the Austrians, This might be the unanserable question but I'd sure like to know.
