    Yugo sks legality?

Ok sorry sorry this has been asked many times. I am currently out of state for a few months and have an opportunity for an unissued Yugoslav sks. Does it need to have a date on the rifle to prove the year in order to buy? What else does it need to have/not have? Thanks so much, sorry for this repetative question.

the importer cut the barrel at the end of the launcher on my yugo. then put a cheepo flash suppressor on the end. i still love this rifle. the price to live in COMMIE land.by birth not choice.

the 59/66 are obviously from after 1966 so none are over 50 years old

the 59s were made between 1959 and 1966 their is no way to prove their birthdate some people tried to decypher the alphabet code but it is all guesswork

As a C&R FFL if you are outside of California you can acquire one and then bring it back to California with you. Just make sure it doesn't have a grenade launcher on it before you cross the state line.

This is 100% accurate. The Yugo SKS is a great shooter. Buy it.

Not an expert on Yugo SKS, but I don't think any of them came with brakes, although Century did install some to be CA compliant.

The original ones either have a launcher or they don't. Samco still has them in stock, you can see the difference pretty easily:

Most of the ones I've seen, including the two I own, have metal sleeves spot welded over the grenade launcher. The rifle ends up up looking like it has a big suppressor on the end of it.

If you are buying an M59/66 outside of California you can pretty much assume it is going to have the original grenade launcher on the end. Get rid of the launcher before coming back to California and then buy an aftermarket brake or flash suppressor. If you are buying an M59 then you don't need to worry about removing anything.

hahaha, my MAS36/51 has a grenade launcher on it. now all i need to do is find some 1951 french rifle grenades. of course, now that i think about it, they'd probably be in good shape...
