    New 1908 Brazilain Mauser

Over the weekend I glommed a 1908 Brazilian Mauser that is supposed to be in "excellent condition"with an "excellent bore"

Here is the pic from the auction site

Better pic and range report when it arrives.

Id love to get my hands on one. I would buy it if it had a good crest/ coat of arms etc.
is this one in 7mm or convert to 308?

It was listed as 7x57 and I'm pretty sure it still is.

The Chileans had a program to convert many of their 7 x 57 Mauser rifles to 7.62 Nato, but I'm not aware of any such program by the Brazilians.

I have a small collection of South American Mausers that have nice crests on them, including a 1908

                    Gorgeous rifles, SVT

I've got a number of Argentine rifles that are in great shape, but the Brazilian Mausers are usually a step below in condition. Yours are an exception to that.

1908 was chambered in 7x57, a lot of them were re-barreled later to 30/06 and designated as the 08/34. Receivers and bolts being "in the white" in the tropical areas of Brazil, almost always have pitting under the wood line. SVT-40's rifles are some nice examples.

I checked my 1908 and found no pitting...must be lucky. Also, my 08/34 mine somehow dodged re-chambering and is still in the original 7 x 57.

None of my Argentines or Chileans are pitted, either. The 09 Paraguay, unfortunately is not so fortunate.

Most Brazilian 1908's I've owned or examined have been in very good or better condition, and mint examples are not uncommon. My last one was excellent + and all matching, and was one of the less common examples that were made by Mauser Oberndorf for DWM instead of by DWM in Berlin.

Brazilian M1894 rifles, on the other hand, are very seldom encountered in any kind of decent condition. Most look like they were used as canoe paddles by Jivaro head-hunters on the Amazon. I had 3 of them that were in "better than average" condition, but still rough when compared to most other South American Mausers.

For those who are into South American Mausers, there is a Columbian FN Model 1950 in .30-06 that Foxfire 1969 has for sale on the Calguns Trader for $310.00 - it looks to be in excellent original condition (much nicer than the one I had was) , and this isn't a bad price at all for a nice military Mauser that shoots the ever popular, available, and affordable '06 round.

If I had the cash to spare I'd "quickly snatch it up", but then if something came up where I couldn't afford to keep it and had to put it back up for sale, the whining, bi+ching, complaining, azzhoals who had plenty of time to get it themselves but didn't would get together for a little circle jerk and call me things like "scalper", "weird", "swindler", and "faker", and try to insinuate all other kinds of nasty, libelous, dishonest, and unethical things about me.

Seriously, all kidding aside, it's a very nice rifle for a very attractive price, and somebody here should grab it.

Do you have a link to the Columbian Mauser? Can't seem to find it
