Nice Krag. Bore looks a little frosty, but if it doesn't clean there's always cast loading.

Good price with the included bayonet.

Perhaps I misread but, ad noted barrel length was 24" -- issue krag is 30" --
I did not see where ad claimed it was a cadet or phillipine contstabulary model --

          Hmm that's true, didn't notice that.^^

The foreend does look shorter than the usual Krag, but that doesn't look bubba to me. What say the Krag experts?

I'm thinking that this is one of the commercial "short model" rifles cobbled together from surplus parts in the 1920 and 1930s by firms like Bannerman, W. Stokes Kirk, and R. F. Sedgley. The stock appears to be a cut-down rifle stock. The forend looks oversized where it meets the upper band.

The muzzle is not turned down to fit the service bayonet (as was the Constabulary Rifle), so I suspect that the bayonet's muzzle ring may have been reamed to fit the oversize muzzle. What is the muzzle ring diameter on the bayonet? Measure carefully with a caliper and post the dimension. Also, carefully examine the inside of the muzzle ring for grind marks or out-of-round.

That is what is commonly referred to as a "school gun". Philippine Constabulry Rifles don't really exist here in great numbers and the pedigree is hard to prove. These are cut-down infantry rifles with the forend shortened to accommodate the shortened barrel. That being said, you did get the 1902 sights, which are the best shooting, IMHO. They have an integrated peep. The 1901 sights are more rare but I prefer the 1902s. Also a tell-tale sign of a school gun is the "U" on the barrel band. Carbines have a "C" on them and are different.

Often times, these were fitted with a blank adapter, but yours is not. It should be a good shooter. Consider getting the Pacific peep sight that mounts in the hole where the mag cutoff goes. It will make up for any shortcomings that the extra 6" of barrel would have given you.
