Late K31

As those of you who know me are aware, I have a thing for Swiss rifles (and most others to boot), especially late K31's, and any of the older long rifles.

Over the weekend, I again succumbed to my addiction and bought a late model K31 (240xxx). This one has a nice looking walnut stock, that puzzles me.


Description advised as follows:

Swiss Schmidt-Rubin Karabiner Model 1931 (K31) Straight-Pull Rifle, #240xxx, 7.5x55mm Swiss, 25.7'' barrel, blue finish, European walnut stock, with leather sling. Lightly import marked. Condition is fine to near excellent retaining approx. 96% blue on receiver. Stock shows minor dings, scratches, thinning to finish, and light oil staining. Action is crisp, bore is bright.

Nice furniture on it. Did you look at the serial number on the stock and handguard to see if it matches?

I thought I'd given up on the Swiss thing but after you guys left yesterday I pulled out my K31 that I just received Thursday and the chickens and turkey that taunted me just an hour before all went down. I kid you not I hit 7 chickens in a row, 6 turkeys and about 5 pigs (all that was left). Maybe I finally found a Swiss I like?

Unfortunately this is an auction gun, so I have to wait to actually see it. Had to buy it on the picture, description and faith based on my prior dealing with this auction house.

I'm glad the Swiss is working for you...I really think they are the equal of the Swede in accuracy and have the advantage of shooting a heavier bullet for those stubborn rams.

Glad you enjoyed the Ljungman. It is a little complicated, but after you shot it, Dan sat down and fired it and knocked a chicken over right off the bat.

I definitely will, Juanito. I'll post additional pics when this new one arrives.

My Merit eyeglass diopter arrived yesterday (the day after I could have used it) and it looks like it might help. I tried looking at the iron sights through it and it made a significant difference in how sharp the front and rear sights are.

My sons and I have shot our Swiss guns at that match several times and you are right...tons of fun.

Steve, I have two sets of the Merit diopter sticky thingy and use it with my Swiss rifles and they do work. Does not help when using the American rifles as the rear aperture is so close to your eye.

What auction site do you buy these rifles at? I've bought my M96 Swede from GB but have not used any other auction site.

One reason I like the M 1911. The rear sight is futher toward the front where old eyes have a better chance of seeing it. With that, I just ordered another K 31 just because it looked great and the price was low.

I've been using the 1911 and 96/11 rifles in our matches for several years now for the reason that you identified and the back sight is starting to get blurry. I haven't shot with it yet, but sighting the rifle using the Merit diopter on my glasses gave me cleaner margins on the rear sight
