    Garand FTF Issues

So I got my CMP Garand a couple weeks ago. I took it to the range last weekend and put 50 rds through it with 1 ftf. I thought this might have been the way I loaded the clip but when I went back to the range yesterday I ran three clips through the rifle and it didn't feed on the second to last round on all three clips. The tip of the bullet would be high and not feeding into the chamber. I would have to pull the op rod handle back, push the round down and then the last two rounds would cycle.

Before I went to the range, I put some Hoppes oil on it but didn't do much else. I didn't touch it between sessions at the range as I didn't think 50rds down the pipes would be much cause for cleaning. I'm shooting the Hornady range ammo that CMP sells.

Ay idea what might be causing this?

***FIXED - to those who might be wondering, I was able to fixed the problem by correctly greasing the rifle.

The en bloc clip may not be remaining seated. So, clip latch and spring come to mind.

Also check to make sure all your rounds are sitting properly in clip.

Improper or lack of lubrication of operating parts. Weak operating rod spring. Incorrectly reassembled gas system. Worn or out of spec op rod piston (tip). Out of spec gas cylinder. Those are the most common issues of FTF. Is your CMP Garand "Rack Grade"?

Mine needed to be completely disassembled, cleaned and greased before it would feed right. It still doesn't like the greek clips very much. Also make sure the op rod and handle aren't rubbing the stock anywhere.

what ammo are you using, and are you using an adjustable gas port? I find my rifle will malfunction in a manner similar to yours if i don't adjust the gas system to the ammo I'm using. Overpressurewill cause this malfunction for me.

Hoppes is a cleaner. You need to grease the Garand to make it work. Not a ton, but where it shows wear or contact. Tractor grease, Gunslick or similar lube.

I'm using Hoppes oil. Works very well on the other rifles/pistols but I may need to branch out a bit.

Per my original post, the rifle is all "stock" as it came to me from the CMP. Ammo as stated is the Hornady range ammo they sell (not surplus stuff) and the clips I am using are all new from the CMP.

Sorry, missed the ammo in the original post. Grease her up and tell us if your still getting the same problems.

Might also want to check the clips... Make sure they are not "sf" as these French clips are somewhat problematic...
