    Why am I so cheap...

So this week has killed me for being cheap. I bid on 3 auctions on gunbroker, from sellers who are actually willing to ship to CA (Hooray) but then I end up losing by $5-10 bucks. Dont really know why I set the maximum bid at the amount I did, I would have probably been willing to pay 30-40 bucks more even then what they sold for. I need to stop entering some arbitrary number and bid the highest that I am really willing to go....

Do a cost to benefit analysis. It hurts to spend more than you have to, but....it can also hurt to not get something you truly desire. My rationale is this: If my living expenses and my loved ones needs are met, AND I have access to the money without borrowing, I'll buy it. This is one of the reasons I skip a gun show or two in between visits.

I am beginning to learn this the hard way.

Too many auctions with shill bidding going on, that's why you loose by a few bucks. Wait till the last 20 minutes or so, then enter your max bid.

Insert something esoteric here [ ]. You are cheap to the tune of $5 or $10 because you are a cheap blinker. That's why. No hiding it. Go to the mirror, say I will bid over. Fall down, grip stomach, throw up, get up, look in mirror, live with being a cheap blinker and be happy. Stop worrying about it. It's your nature.

PS edit----- Without you cheap blinkers us frivolous wasters would have to pay more, so please don't change.

The rifle I was bidding on was a VZ-52. This one actually had a good bore and decent wood. They seem to come up auction style on gunbroker in spurts. The rest sit there with BIN forever. Plus the seller was willing to ship to CA C&R holders. Guess I will have to wait for another one to pop up again. The other 2 auctions were ammo. Not as bummed about those, but still pretty bummed.

Bid on it and get it, or don't. That's it in a nutshell.

If you don't and are bummed, then I suggest Prozac, a very helpful drug. Lessons on how not to lose a bid ----- bid MORE. Duuuu. Ain't brain surgery. Bid less, you lose. Get bummed and want to talk about your loss because you bid too little, suck an e-boli ice-cycle.

Tell your mother. She might bid more and laugh all the way to happiness --because she won the bid because she raised a turnip.

Dont even know how to respond to that. I know I am a sore loser, I think I finally learned my lesson this time and will bid with more zeal next time. If that is what you are trying to say then great we are on the same page.

VZ52? Cool guns. My son found ours at a gunstore in Spokane when he was stationed there. It was one of those Century imports covered in bedliner. Took a while to clean it up and refinish the wood.
We have some surplus ammo that's given us trouble, cases sticking in the breech. Need to find some other ammo and try it.

Trying to avoid the bedliner versions this time. I have surplus ammo if you want to try out a different batch. I need to make it out to one of the norcal shoots....

i do the same thing with gun parts on ebay. sure, i'm willing to pay more, but i know what i want to pay so that's what i bid, then i get sniped at the last minute when i'm not paying attention. i've begun bidding higher because there's some stuff i really need and i may or may not find it again in the near future. finally got my t99 arisaka stock. suck on that r*****s or whoever, lol! anybody here bidding on a carcano stock on ebay right now, knock it off, it's mine! yeah, we've all eaten some crap on the bidding game and some of us(me) continue to. lost one today again, by a few bucks. it happens to us that try to be sensible even though we know we aren't. oh well.

I have done lots of internet selling and buying on ebay. I have never figured out why people bid so early in the auction and then bid again if someone gets ahead of them a few days later. I only bid early if its something that I can live with missing out on. If its important I set an alarm or have my wife bid it for me in the last minute. Nothing like sliding in and sniping the guy who was the high bidder for 6 days, 23 hours, 59 minutes and 45 seconds. One of lifes simpler pleasures.
