    Mosin Nagant M38 Concern

i was cleaning my Mosin Nagant M38 Carbine tonight and i looked into the chamber and was concerned when i saw this on there, it looks like a chunk of the right portion of the chamber is gone. i walked over to the safe, took a look at my -43 Izzy Ex-Sniper and saw the same thing. is this anything i need to worry about or is this normal? this is the first time i have really looked at it. can anybody shed some light? or is this on all mosins?

It's actually where the bullet locks into the bolt head and where that piece of metal goes. The circled parts in the picture.

Don't worry you are not the first person to post a photo of this area on Calguns thinking that it got blown up at some point.

Komotz yes that is the corresponding part (the Extractor) that goes into that groove.

                    I'm forever blowing bubbles,
                    Pretty bubbles in the air,
                    They fly so high,
                    Nearly reach the sky

i cant believe the deal i got on mine! youre gonna be stunned. my buddys dad knows the owner of a pawn shop in bellflower, and this old millionaire gave away his guns to the pawn shop because he believed he was too old to shoot them, so my friends dad brought home some rifles and shotguns, he brought home a Finn-HEX(MUTT) 91/30 sniper the M38 a Benelli M4 and a few others, and i told my friend that i didnt want to leave his house without the M38, and i bought the M38 from his dad for 75$. thats before he knew how rare they are and how much they go for i love carbines, the M44 weighs too much IMO so i love my M38. and definitely Carbines>Rifles IMO

gotten a lot of good stuff from knowing a shop owner. more ammo than guns, but a few of them too. got an arisaka on the way right now that needs a little love, but the price was unbeatable. BTW, carbines are not actually better than rifles, but they sure sound a hell of a lot cooler when you fire them! surplus makes a great fireball out of my m44. heavy ball even better, but beats the living piss out of you.
