Carrier cracked the stock on my shotgun, pix of damage, recommendations pls?

Its a moderately expensive double, think 1-2K.
My FFL just called to say the stock is split from damage occurred during shipping.
I haven't seen the damage yet, I'll stop by tomorrow and look at it.

here's what it looked like before shipping:

check out the town name on the lever

I'm hoping he took insurance out on it, I'm still waiting on his reply to that end.
It was sent priority, doesn't that come with some kind of default insurance?

Are you Sure it wasnt UPS they do offer built in insurance of 100 dollars more if you choose to pay extra
USPS Priority mail does not come with insurance included
I dont have any recomindation or repair because I have no Idea about the damage but best of luck with getting it repaired replaced or at least getting your money back
    I'm forever blowing bubbles,
    Pretty bubbles in the air,
    They fly so high,
    Nearly reach the sky

Nope, none at all. I sent a KAC rifle length rail system via USPS, priority with delivery confirmation, but no insurance. A USPS worker was kind enough to open the package, take the rail, and leave other less costly items in the package. It was then closed up and sent along to the recipient. No endorsement or acknowledgement of the obvious pilfering, and absolutely no claim for recompense since I didn't insure it.

Your only hope is with the seller if it isn't insured. USPS will just tell you to kick rocks. The guy who tossed and broke your package will probably get a promotion.

Why would you say that? Since USPS uses commercial airlines for Priority shipping it could have been someone at the airport. I am a Letter Carrier for USPS and most of us, at my office anyway, take pride in our job.
Priority shipping does not automaticly come with insurance BUT it is a requirement for the clerk to ask the customer if they want it when the package is dropped off.

It was insured, the question is whether I get the run around by USPS now.

Needs new buttstock try bob's gun shop he has stocks for a lot of antique guns and he can reproduce from your stock with a copy lathe. New stock can be as much as $500. The barrels with forearm should have been removed and packed alongside butt and receiver and wrapped well. Or put in hardbox. Never stick a delicate firearm like that in cardboard box unless eps foam nesting.

From what I can see in the pic it doesnt look like it was packaged very well.
No way I would ship a nice firearm in cardboard box with alittle bubbled wrap
IMO its as much the shippers fault as the carriers
Did you accpet the firearm from your FFL? If you havent dont.
If you dont accept it its the shippers claim to get settled and from what I have heard USPS can be a pain to get a Insurance claim
Good luck, hope it all works out

That is the shippers fault. Packages are actually supposed to be able to be dropped from common length (basically arm straight out height) and non be damaged with proper packaging (ie bubble wrap and peanuts). I received a M91/30 from Century that had a chipped crown that I suspect was caused by them just sending out the long box with minimal paper and I suspect it was dropped and some bubble wrap around the barrel tip would have prevented this. Unlike your situation, I didn't say anything cause their processing is a nightmare so I just dealt with it. They also pack the trucks so tight and damage could have come from too much weight and not enough packaging material to absorb and distribute the pressure. Anyway you slice it, you should be getting a replacement stock/rifle at the minimum and the shipper needs to make a claim. I'd sent it back immediately after documenting the damage and be wary of your credit card claim time, you may have to go that route if all else fails.

Everyone knows that no carrier takes as much care as they should and the shipper should pack responsibly
Heck I know a gunsmith that if you want to ship him a rifle for work he will not accept it unless it is shipped in a hard case

Thats not fixable, well at least not properly fixable, tho some will say it can be do not fall for it. You need a new stock and they will most likely have to refinish the forearm for w quality match of color.

Harmoniums, if the shipper sent it as pictured (bubble wrap in a layer or two of cardboard) then it is straight-up negligence by the shipper, rather than by the carrier.

It is one thing to ship a $100 Mosin Nagant battle rifle in a plain cardboard box. They were designed for use as a pike or club in the event of running out of ammo.

It is entirely another to ship an expensive and fragile shotgun (which tend to have thin necks) in an a cardboard box, without using a hard case.

Complain loudly to the shipper, refuse delivery, and demand a refund. This is the shipper's fault, not the carrier's.

Sorry, that has to be a big disappointment. Looks like a nice gun.
