I got my first Garand in the mail this morning and its absolutely gorgeous. I got to spend all of 10 minutes with it because I was rushing to get ready for work after FedEx dropped it off, but from what I saw, the metal is in great condition with some minor scratches at the end of the barrel and some along the top of the rear sight guard. The wood is new and the barrel seems to be about as close to new as you can get with a rifle that was made in the 50's (assuming the barrel is H&R)...Muzzle reading 1+ and throat is 2.
I did some quick searches and found information on how I can look up SA and Winchester Serials but not much for post war rifles. Does anyone have any advice on where I can look?
Also, when I was considering which grade to go with from the CMP, I was going to get one of the Special grades but am VERY happy I bought the Service grade. I've seen the Special Grade and aside from some small details there, this rifle could be put next to the Special and it would be hard to tell them apart.
Sorry for the bad pics, I will update when I have time to take better ones.
