Two Matches @ Sac Valley This Weekend

Rumor has it that there are two matches this weekend. A Garand match on Saturday followed by a Vintage Long Range Match on Sunday. Anyone going for one or both matches?

Will the Bay Area shooters be represented?

I think Sunday is the regular long rang guys, they are just adding vintage shooters because they were going to be short.

I'm going to be there on Sunday, hopefully with one of my sons.

I think this Sunday's match is a "Folsom Special"...every kind of rifle imaginable shooting.

I'm hoping Vern don't show up otherwise we all are toast! Vern is the man to beat and my money is on him to win the as issued class.

            You mean these 2 matches?

Vern won't be there. Talked to him today at the range. Has to go to church.

Paul W said he'll be there, and Arnie M is giving it serious thought.

              Yep them two.

I too go to Mass but will have to be later Sunday evening. Now since Vern not going, we all have a chance now although Paul and Arnie will give us trouble.

I'm going to suck at stage four offhand. Tried it ones and it was not pretty.

Means that if you like where it hit, you can call it one of your record shots. But...you have to decide before your next shot and you only get nine more if you convert it.

No, I sent out and posted notices to the vintage rifle people because this is the same format we shoot for the vintage rifle matches, and thought they might like the additional opportunity to shoot longer distances.

Sunday's match was my first time shooting at anything beyond 500m. What a total hoot!

I'll be attending more of these for sure. What a group of professional and helpful shooters at this event. Very enjoyable day for sure!

                          What were you shooting?

My eldest son and I were there with our Swiss rifles.

I struggled on Saturday at the Garand match from the sitting and standing unsupported positions. Did surprisingly well at Prone slow and rapid. The long range match on Sunday was awesome, the 1955 Swiss K-31 with the 1951Weaver K-3/post reticule and surplus GP-11 ammo once again shined. It's amazing how well WWII technology can still compete with the fancy new rifles. Total score of 369-6X from 300, 500, 600 & 800 yards was my highest result ever. Thanks to Rob for hosting a great match, everybody had a blast.

I was out there on Sunday too, shooting on Relay 1 next to Mustang and his son. Had a nice time and enjoyed pushing the limits out past my usual max distance of 500 meters. I left the house at 6am for the 90 minute drive and realized I forgot my ammo can which is the base for my front rest... lost around 15 minutes so I ended up driving a little more "aggressive" than usual. One of the cars I passed was another shooter at the match, and he got to see me almost get run off the road by some idiot in a truck who was too busy talking on his cell phone to be bothered with other people on the road... lol.

My old Finnish Mosin did ok, but I started off at the lowest sight setting and on the third shot I realized what was up... dang. Finishing the first series at 300 yds with an 81 is not going to win a match!! I had fun and I will definitely try to make more of these matches.

I told Mustang I think I need to move to Ione!!!

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.
