Predicament: M1 or SKS

just like the title says, im very interested in these rifles but know very little about them

realistically ill probably end up with both but whats the pros and cons of each and which one should i buy first?

m1= Good old American Classic, 8 round bloc, 30-06 and everyone loves the ping. Easy to to shoot and take care of. Only down side is ammo is a bit pricey and m1s are climbing up in pricw as well. However if you can get a good one grab it.

SKS= Good commie garbage. Takes a licking and keeps on ticking. Ammo is cheap and plentiful, easy to clean and maintain. Prices is 300-500 depending on which one you get.


Id say which ever one you can get your hands on first grab it. The secret is out and they are drying up.

its still good but you can pay a bit more and have way better

Never had any experience with an SKS but you'll definitely fall in love with everything about the M1 Garand, except the price of ammunition hah.

SVT-40, if you can deal with something with their temperament.

Just let one go today. Couldn't afford to keep it, bought on a whim last month. Very fun shooter though if you feed it the right ammo and have the gas setting right. Quite a bit of work to take it down as well. That barrel band is so tight it's not even funny.

i already have plenty of x39 ammo so the SKS is very tempting, the garand is nice but ammo is pricey, how about the M1 Carbine that takes the 30 carbine cartridge? hows the ammo price and availabilty on those?

The M1 Carbine is pretty neat and fun to shoot - the ammo is somewhat expensiveish, not too common round but most places should have them.

I assume you are talking about an M1 Garand. If it was my choice, Garand for sure. It's just a very well made firearm whichever of the four manufacturer made them...get one of each.

That's what I was wondering, is it an M1 Garand or Carbine? Either one is good. It's true American. As for the SKS, what country was it made in? Again, it really does not matter. Get both if you got the mad money to do it and enjoy them.

I am there with you. I have a SA Correct Grade Garand and really want a SKS. Even bid on a few this week at gunbroker.

I have 2 kids but only 1 Garand.

So, off the order goes to CMP today for an HRA Service Grade. The SKS will have to wait.

well if you got plenty of X39 ammo then go for the SKS. Believe it, they love to eat ammo and it will go fast

However AIM surplus has some nice looking 30-06 for 329.00 for 500 which isn't to bad. Then again you can get 1200 rounds of X30 for 300 and some change...its up to you OP

Which to get 1st? Which ever one you find a good deal on 1st. Do you want a shooter or a collector? Chinese SKSs are fairly cheap, nice Russians not so much. Garands are going to be $700 and up.

Get the Garand first, you won't be sorry. It's a well made machine and will put a smile on your face from ear to ear. I just don't get that with the SKS

get an ak varient for just a few dollars more than an sks and get a more accurate more ergonomic piece of commie junk. run a monster man grip to drop pre ban mags.

m1 garand is something you need to get asap because they are drying up and are getting pricey.
