    7.62x54r Match Ammo?

I just picked up a 240 round spam can of this "match" ammo. Calguns members can you provide any info on what this stuff is? Will be shooting it in a 23" 7.62x54r Vepr.ImageUploadedByTapatalk1345407157.973690.jpg

Heavy ball around 200 grain, lead core non-magnetic. Its brass cased and corrosive. Supposed to be very consistent. This ammo has only been around a month or so. It has not been seen for a few years, then in only limited quantities.

There is also "target" in a blue box. Not quite as consistent and is magnetic..

I picked up 4 crates of the match and 1 crate of the target.

Make sure your Vepr can handle heavy ball.

Ammo Bros had it a few weeks ago on sale 279.99 for crate of 480 rounds. Its pricey but its non-magnetic and match ammo.

Dans ammo may still have it in stock. Only problem with Dans, you may get target instead of match.

Costa Mesa gun show. Ammo Brothers booth $125 for the spam can with opener. @stevie have you shot it? The vepr is rated for heavy ball.

Not yet, some info at gunboards on the sniper forum. You got it at a great price.

My uncle picked up 5 boxes of this stuff and my dad 2 at the show yesterday. I had never seen it before then either. I'll let you know how it runs through a Mosin 91/30 and a M44.

Does anyone know if the cases are reloadable? TIA

Berdan primed, if you know how to reload those.

Unfortunately I only know how to load boxer primers, but I appreciate the response.

Sounds pretty pricey for corrosive berdan primed ammo.

Non-magnetic is key since most of the ranges don't allow anything that sticks to one. PPU ammo runs around $14.95 a box. My rifle is going to get cleaned regardless if it's corrosive or not, so that's really a non-issue. I am intrigued by the 200 grain bullet though as my Mosin seems to like the 182 grain PPU.

If you don't reload then its a good alternative but if you do, i think you could do better.
